"What if I moved my neck slightly? I think I'm getting a cramp." Lance said to Keith.
"Shhhh. I'm trying to focus." Keith said and threw his eraser at lance.
"I'm being serous. What if I get a hunchback from sitting like this for too long?" Lance laughed and straightened up a little. He picked up the eraser and threw it up in the air, catching it.
"Stop moving!" Keith growled at lance. Lance threw the eraser again but missed it. "I said stop!" Keith said again and took the eraser from lance.
"I'm sorry! I can't help it. I haven't stayed still this long in my whole life." Lance said, sitting across from him on Keith's bed. Lance was starting to feel anxious, his muscles tensing as he forced himself to try to stay still. He turned his head and itched his ear off of his shoulder, making Keith look up and glare at him again. "Sorry. I'm just really warm." Lance said and went back to sitting still.
"Well If you would stay in one place for longer then 2 seconds I could finish and we could go do something." Keith said looking back down at his sketchbook. "I'm almost done."
Lance watched Keith as he drew. His face was serious and focused. Then Lances eyes wandered around Keith's bedroom. All over the wall there were sketches and cartoon drawings Keith had done. There were also posters for bands lance hadn't really heard of before and the occasional shirt or pair of jeans that were lying on the floor. Keith's bedroom used to be an attic but his parents had renovated it and turned it into a bedroom so Keith could have more space to do his art. The first time lance came up here he noticed how much warmer it was then Keith's original bedroom. (He'd moved up from his bedroom in the basement, which was always cold.) It wasn't until now, when lance was forced to stay still, that he noticed how hot it actually was. But he wanted to stay still so Keith could finish.
"How close are you to finishing? I feel like I'm about to pass out." Lance said. He meant this as a joke but he could feel his chest starting to tighten, the heat was beginning to bother him a lot and he swore he could feel the room start to get smaller and smaller.
"I'm almost finished, I can't get your mouth right. Maybe if you smiled?" Keith said mostly to himself. Lance smiled and Keith smiled back. "That's better! You're much more attractive smiling anyways." Lance frowned and gave Keith big puppy eyes. "Smile!" Keith said again.
So lance smiled, now that he wasn't distracted by conversation, he focused again on the tightening in his chest and he bounced his leg up and down to try to calm himself a little bit. He could hardly hear Keith ask him to turn more towards the right over the sound of his heart beating in his ears. At this point lance knew this wasn't happening because he was too warm. This was the first stage of his panic attack.
"Lance, look to the right." Keith repeated and grabbed his eraser. Lance turned to the right. The only sounds in the room were the sound of Keith's eraser on the paper and Lances breathing. Lance tried to focused on the movement of Keith's pencil on the paper. Each new stroke added a different shade and a new line. Lance had always been fascinated by art, although he had never been any good at it himself. He was more impressed with the drawing that was slowly growing on Keith's paper though. Every detail looked perfect and just as important as the rest. Keith really knew how to capture the parts of people that made them unique and use it to make his drawings better.
Lance could hear Keith humming slightly while he worked out the proportions of Lances mouth. It was a song that lance played a lot in the car. The song Keith always made him shut off. But lance didn't feel like commenting on this. Instead he counted from 0-10 and then backwards in his head to try to slow his breathing. He noticed Keith look up at him and raise an eyebrow. Lance gave him a bigger smile in return then continued his counting. He couldn't look around the room anymore because each time his eyes wandered he felt like the walls were closing in on him and it only made him more anxious to move.
