Coming to school on monday morning had felt more horrible now than ever. It was just Jenna, Samantha and I. And Samantha had her other friends she usually hung out with. The guys all left school. As for Julie, I haven't heard from her since I asked whether or not she was moving after all, she hasn't answered still.
Just Jenna and I. It was like nothing had even happened, we were back to our boring, everyday school routine. And she was my best friend, I loved her to death, but it seemed wrong.
I met up with her at lunch. We had nothing to talk about. Only how we miss everyone and it's not the same.
We passed by Mandy in the hallway. She grinned at me and I grinned back, we exchanged a friendly "Hi" "How are things" "Haven't seen you in a while"
Jen gave me a glare, raising her eyebrow.
"Since when are you two friends?" she asked suspiciously.
"Well she's not that bad" I shrugged "I saw her a few times over the summer"
It was true, Mandy may have acted horrible to me and my friends in the past, but after we called truce, she and I became surprisingly good friends.
My phone buzzed in my pocket. I picked it up swiftly and expectantly.
"It's from Julie" I said surprised "She says" my exitement faded as I read the message, turning into disappointment "She's moving" I whispered.
Jenna glared at my phone disappointedly. We just couldn't believe how incredibly fast everything fell apart. Again. This wasn't the first time, once again it was just me and Jen.
I felt a light tapping on my shoulder. I turned around morosely. A tall, pale girl with straight black hair was staring at me and grinning from ear to ear.
"Jules"I squeeled, confused and surprised. Jen and I hugged her tightly "What are you doing here? We thought you left!"
She shook her head "Nope, my dad was able to find a new job here. I'm staying for a long time. Wow, that was weird to say" she chuckled at her words.
"But..." I pointed to my phone confusedly "The text?"
Julie shook her hand "That was just so I could see your face" she grinned smugly.
"Well at least we're not completely alone" Jen smiled.
Julies expression became more serious "They really left, didn't they?" Jen and I kept quiet "I was hoping it was just a joke or something"
"Come on, let's go" Jen said softly "We don't wanna be late for class"
This was the beggining of one truly boring year, I often thought to myself.
I texted Luke as soon as I came home from school. I didn't want to call him since, knowing him, he might as well still be sleeping.
He replied almost immediately and we agreed for him to come over. My parents were at work, so we could be alone.
"Remember that tour I told you about?" Luke asked at one point as we were cuddling on the couch, doing nothing specific.
I lifted my head from his chest to look at him, raising my eyebrows.
"The tour starts tomorrow" he said, bitting his lip nervously.
Before I could even process what he said, I was already reacting "What?" I shouted and sat up.
"I'm sorry I didn't tell you-" he sat up next to me, crooning to calm me down.
But I couldn't help myself. The words shot right out of my mouth when I excalimed "You're leaving me!" I suddenly lowered my voice and whispered "You're leaving"
"No, no, it's just for a month. I'm coming back, why are you so worried?" Luke crooned, trying to calm me down.
"It's a foreign country with beautiful, foreign girls and a month is enough time for you to move on" I said nervously, shocked at my own words.
"Do you really think I would do that?" Luke said, just as surprised in what I said as me.
"No, I know, I mean, I know you wouldn't...it's just...I don't know where that came from" I mumbled, feeling really bad about what I said.
"Well I do" he took my hands "You've been left alone before. Just like me. I know how you feel" he gently stroked my cheek "I promise, wherever I go, I'll always come back. I promise" he wiped a tear before it slipped down my cheek.
I hugged him tightly, and he hugged me back. We sat in eachothers arms, enjoying eachothers company while it was still there.
