News about Julie and Ashton's wedding blew up like when you buy a new phone: the first week everything is exciting and it's all you can talk about, but time passes and soon it's just as ordinary as anything else you own. But it wasn't your typical, every day event. The thought took some sinking in and getting used to. This is why the first few days after the engadgement announcement were crazy and a little blurry to think about. Friends and family kept calling to congradulate, the media were restless to get their scoop on how the world famour drummer, Ashton Irwin, was getting married. And if the week was a riot for me, I could only imagine what it was like for Julie. After it had settled in, though, she invited me over to talk preperations. Of course, when the event is still fresh, you feel like you want to get everything done that same day! But her excitement faded away as some time passed, as she got used to the idea, and she became more reasonable and calmer when it came to preperations.
We were lounging around on the couch and armchairs, Julie, Jenna, Samantha and I, in Julie's living room. She was telling a, seemingly endless, story about she couldn't come acroos that perfect wedding dress anywhere, when it suddenly hit her "Jessica!" she exclaimed as if she'd just remembered something greatly important.
I lifted my head in confusion, hoping I hadn't missed something, since my thoughts have long drifted from the conversation and I haven't been paying much attention. Julie beamed at me "You have an eye for detail. I've seen when you decorate your apartment or doodle pretty sketches of wardrobe. Will you please design my dress?"
"What? Me? Design your wedding dress? Jules, I'm not exactly a professional, it's just when I have inspiration..."
"Please?" Julie pouted pleadingly "It doesn't matter even if it turns out horrible, not that I'm saying it will, but just try. Come on, I can't find a decent gown anywhere."
You could practically see her getting her hopes up, which wasn't fair, she knew I hated disappointing people. So I sighed and said "Alright, I'll give it a shot. But, don't expect it to be anything special." I barely got to finish my sentence, since Julie was already pulling me into an impossibly tight hug.
"Make it a short dress, about knee lenght-" she started "-no! Make it a proper, long gown. Also, it should be simple, but tasteful-"
"Wait. I'm not exactly and expert at drawing, I need some help there." I said, cutting her off before she got a chance to go into details.
"What about Jenna?" Samantha suggested and Jen suddenly found her voice "Why me? Like I am an expert."
"Yes, you're brilliant! No denying it!" Julie pointed out what we all were thinking. There was no result in Jenna's complaining as the job had practically been handed to her.
So we devided into two groups, Jenna and I were brainstorming ideas for something that suits Julie, while she and Sam worked on finding bridesmade dresses. It took about 20 minutes, but I was finally satisfied with the result. The gown I designed and Jen drew would be white. It started at the shoulders, forming a v-neck and was tight until the waist, where laid the only dress decoration, a silver belt. From there, it started widening, flowing slightly more and more away from the body until it fell to the floor, where it created a circle. Just by Julie's requests, simple, yet tasteful.
She seemed to love it, because the first thing she said was "Jess, you could be a designer!" after which came the dreaming sighes and thanks.
This comment, unfortunately, awoke questions in my tangled mess of a mind. What am I going to be? I'm in college and still have no idea what to do with my life! The more I think about it, the more distance I seem to put between myself and the answer. I couldn't be the only one who doesn't know what she wants. Definitely a lot of people are lost with the same thoughts, but that hardly brings any comfort. Questions flood in dayly, each carrying fear of the future, until, finally, I was petrified. I smiled through the roaring thoughts bouncing in my head and thanked Julie on her compliment.
I insisted she show us the bridesmade dresses she'd found and they were beautiful. Red. I expected something to be red as it was her favourite color, and the one that best suited her, too. They were sleeveless and tight from shoulder to waist, where a red belt was placed and it flew free from waist to knee.
We decided to call it a day. Having picked out outfits and a hair style for the bride and having bucked a place for the wedding, it was enough for one busy day of planning. Julie, being the perfectionist she is, I expected to be a bit more difficult to come to terms with. But she was reasonable and quite easy to agree with. Although, the worst was yet to come, I thought and chuckled to myself.

After coffee with the girls, I was in an unexpectedly good mood. Humming, I unlocked the front door and stepped inside. I hadn't expected what I came in to find, though, I thought the apartment would be empty. Instead, Luke, Michael, Calum and Ashton have taken up the couch and were watching TV. They looked up in chorus and I shot back at them a puzzled frown.
"Hey Jess. Hope you don't mind, I brought the lads over after band practise." Luke started explaining "It was cut short after Michael tripped and broke his arm."
"Of couse I don't mind." I said after Michael had waved at me, showing off the cast that covered his entire forearm to his fingers "I hope you're okay." I added sympathetically.
"I'll be fine." he assured as they invited me to watch a movie with them. But, as I sat down, I had a nasty feeling there'd be more to the broken arm than just a bandage.
