Darkness at the end of the tunnel

 "Excuse!? Your 'worker' just tore a hole through the frick-"

"On what claims?" The Commander cut Edward's rant off, not disapprovingly but assuming it was not a time for such rant.

"How about we talk inside, it's getting rather chilly don't you think?"

"I can't believe this." Edward grumbled. Currently the brothers and Toshiro were sitting on a couple of crates not far from the office that the Commander and Captain, along with the black haired man who claimed to be here on a General's orders, occupied.

"It's true, he did after all damage the building and equipment." Alphonse nodded, they both seemed to be sulking from the sudden loss of action.

"Oh you sad saps, I actually feel sorry for you." For some almost scary reason the ice storm alchemists wore a cat smile on his face.

"What's with the 'I-know-how-to-find-trouble' smile." Edward's uninterested posture gave way to a more interested composure.
 
"You know something don't you." Alphonse looked at him suspiciously "Spill."

"Come on, you don't just work in Briggs Wall without reason and NOT know anything." Toshiro jumped off the high crate he was on and began walking down the dark corridor "Come  soldiers follow me."

'I really am sorry about the inconvenience we have caused' the male voice crackled over the radio.

'Yes I understand Officer Quinn, but I was really wondering, how does one really get there hands on such a creature, any ideas?' A female seductive voice rolled smoothly back.

"How on earth did you set this up?" Edward whispered to Toshiro. They sat in a small room right above the office listening to a radio transmission of what was going on in said office at the  moment.

"Don't worry, she was the one who set it up." Toshiro whispered back.

"Why?" Alphonse asked.

"For instances like these, shhhh they're talking again." The radio indeed started crackling again.

'Oh you know I can't do that." Officer Quinn genuinely sounded upset.

'How about you make an exception just for me."

"Hearing the Commander flirt seems so disturbing..." Alphonse shuddered in the back.

"Trust me, I'm more certain she wants to kill him." Toshiro huffed.

'So what do you plan to do with such a creature."

Officer Quinn chuckled 'We plan to build the greatest nation yet. My main job actually was to ask if you wanted to join, it's a place for only the best."

"Oh? I may need to think on that, you flatter me, best of the best?" The Commander laughed lightly.

'Well do not worry, you have till this evening to make your decision, until then milady." The sound of a scraping chair pushed backwards and a closing door could be heard before all went silent.

"Well there's your info, what do you want to do now?" Toshiro turned to the brothers with a tired look in his eyes.

"Us? you're the better strategist, don't you want to make a plan?" Alphonse was surprised.

"You guys seem to have a plan so I was wondering what it was."

"The plan is to take down the Furhur and stop this goddamn war that's what." Edward pulled himself up and walked out the door. Toshiro and Alphonse looked at each other, shrugged and followed behind.

"Well I guess that is considered a plan."

Edward's 'meeting' with Officer Quinn went awire from the start.
"What the hell is this!?" Said alchemist yelled.

"My apologies fullmetal alchemist, this was ordered until the end of the movement." The Briggs officer sincerely looked upset.

"Yes, but arrest us until then?" Alphonse shifted in the rope that were tied around his armour, similar as to that on Edward.

"Yea and no offence Storm, but why isn't the Ice Storm Alchemist arrest to, he's an alchemist to."

"That's cause this movement can't happen without him." The officer glanced at Toshiro and then lowered his gaze.

"Dammit, when I finally thought I got away from work." Toshiro joked to put the officer at ease. "Don't worry Edward, this will be over soon, stay put, the Commander has a plan." Toshiro lowed this voice at the last part.

Toshiro left the brothers and the officer amd headed to the Commander, he was sure she had a plan and he wanted in.

"Storm, nice of you to make it." Toshiro nodded to the Commander as he stood opposite her side, the Captain on the other.

"Ah yes, the Ice Storm alchemist, an honour to finally meet you." Officer Quinn nodded to him. The monster of a homunculus had already been lowered to the ground the the hole was currently being plastered over, officers busied themselves running up and down to make sure the ground was plastered evenly so that the metal would be smooth atop it.

"Isn't this lovely?" Officer Quinn hummed, not waiting for a reply. "Imagine, a whole new world!"

Officer Quinn turned only to be meet with cold steel in his chest, inches away from his heart. "Indeed Officer." The Commander said, eyes cold as ice. "A new world without people like you." Officer Quinn looked to Toshiro and the Captain, both looked the other way.

"You could have had everything...." with that he fell from the blade and into the cement, slowly sinking within it.

"Alright soldiers, I want this floor nice and smooth, can't have any cracks in this can we?" The soldiers moved along like nothing happened.

"Well that's one monster in the hole, we have another." Toshiro and the Captain looked at each other, it was time to show them what they found.

"We have to go down there?" Edward looked at Toshiro for confirmation. They were standing over the entrance to a tunnel beneath the Briggs Wall. "Isn't this the tunnel that Sloth built?"

The Commander began climbing down the steps, "Fortunately no, these tunnels were a transport system from here directly to central." The Captain followed her down after when the Commander's feet touched the ground.

"Were?" Alphonse inquired "You don't use it anymore?" He followed after the Captain, Toshiro shuffling in the background with his bag and a map.

"Not after a whole crew went missing in the darkness." The Captain gave a mad glint and Edward paused as he gripped the ladder. Toshiro clapped his hand on Edward's should to reassure him while he rolled his eyes at the Captain.

"We don't use it because it can easily get hijacked if the base was taken over." Toshiro assured as the four and a few soldiers made it safely to the ground. He made it part way down the stairs to close the door before forgoing it all together and landing lightly on the ground when he jumped.

"Show off." One of the soldiers scoffed as he smiled.

"You know I always aim to please." The lot chuckled at the slight bow he gave.

"Alright people, let's move out." The Commander shook her head.

After a few minutes of walking Alphonse spoke up "I was just wondering but why exactly are we in the tunnels?" Toshiro waved the map at him before holding a finger to his lips and then spreading the fingers of his hand to show the numder five, the silver gloves on his hand glinting slightly yellow from the candle light. Five more minutes of walking.

Sure enough five minutes later the Commander's voice rang out. "Soldiers search and secure the area, I want no unknown ease droppers." The Commander nodded to Toshiro, "Well, I'm quite interested in what you found. Let's see what you got.
