The clanking sound of boots and metal hitting metal echoed through the narrow tunnels. Sparks of alchemic transformations lit up red, teal and gold eyes. The fight was intense. The winning side was undetermined.

“W-what’s going on?” the confident and steady voice of the Colonel was reduced to an uncertain wobble as blank grey-white eyes darted back and forth nervously. Riza’s heart panged at seeing the strong man reduced to this but she will still help him in any way she can- it was her job as his lieutenant and more importantly, his friend.

“Edward is still fighting Pride and Elijah – Envy. The Furhur and Scar are down on the platform, their fighting is done… but I can’t see who won.” Riza strained her neck to see but she dared not leave her Colonel’s side, not even for a moment.

“Injuries?” of course he would still be worried for those under his command, even if he rarely showed it.

“Deep scratches and bruises as far as I can tell.” Truthfully, the pair- Edward and Elijah (Toshiro) moved so quickly that it was hard to tell, only the small moments they stopped to regain their balance, she could see them clearly.

Suddenly, Elijah was thrown by Envy, he spun in the air to get back to his feet but the ground was to close. With a small ‘oomph!’ he hit the ground hard on his side, landing near Riza, making the Colonel jump at the sudden noise.

Toshiro growled, Envy really was pissing him off but now he was much closer to his goal, with graceful movements, he was back on his feet again, he turned to Riza, her eyes widened slightly as his seemed to glow in the darkness of the tunnels. He glanced at the Colonel and then at Edward, “Mustang, you better get those gloves ready.” Riza quickly handed the man a pair of clean gloves she always carried with her. With the pressure on he left foot, Toshiro called out, “Edward!” . Without even hesitating, Edward turned to Envy and slashed at him, his target now changed. As the two exchanged blows, Toshiro dashed at pride.

The trendils that the small homunculus controlled tried to wrap around his legs and trip him, the owner cackling madly. With a click of his finger, ice spread over the area, temporally trapping Pride in a dome, at the same time, Edward called his name, “Storm!”. As if sensing his intentions, he spun to face him and cupped his hands before his as Edward ran toward him. In one smooth movement, Edward used his hands as a spring-board to propel himself into a backflip, over and landing behind Envy.

The homunculus spun to meet him, blade against blade. Toshiro wasted not a moment and forming a blade of ice in his hands, he ran to the pair. Envy, sensing the presence coming towards him, pushed Edward away and moved to intercept Toshiro but was too slow. With one movement, Toshiro brought the ice-bade down across Envy’s chest. The homunculus howled and tried to heal himself, now about the lose their only chance as the small ice dome behind Toshiro cracked, Edward moved forward.

Time seemed to slow down in their adrenalin-state minds. Edward’s automail blade seemed to pierce Envy’s back too slow as Toshiro tried to move his body faster to grab the gleaming red stone in Envy’s chest. Both couldn’t breathe. “Mustang!” Toshiro yelled as he tossed the stone in the air.

“45 degrees up!” Riza yelled. Mustang’s breath caught as he snapped his fingers his lieutenant called. The stone combusted in the blazing hot, white flames. It fell. Toshiro moved to catch it. He hissed as the liquid-like goo burnt his hand and with a small blow from his mouth, he froze it solid. He turned and tossed it at Edward as hard as he could. In one movement, Edward caught it with his automail hand- and crushed it. Slowly he opened his hands and let the dust fly. Toshiro, Edward and Riza stared at Envy’s broken body as it slowly disintegrated, face frozen in shock. The trio that could see glared, almost daring it to reform. The pair- Toshiro and Edward were barely given a chance to breath before the ice- dome shattered, black tendrils shooting everywhere. They glanced at each other, the plan worked, that meant one down one to go. They did it once, they could do it again.

Riza was in awe. She had never seen two people work so smoothly with each other. Not even when Elijah worked with Maes or the Colonel, they moved so easily, it was usually Elijah changing his movements to compensate for the other’s build. She couldn’t imagine how dangerous or powerful the par could be if they were really given a chance to work with each other in the field.

Toshiro and Edward hacked at the trendils that endlessly came at them, without much light, Pride wasn’t as powerful, but he still packed a punch. They dashed in and about but Pride refused to let them close, upon seeing what happened to Envy, Pride had stopped laughing madly and glared at them with red, gleaming eyes. “Ice-storm Alchemist, Fullmetal Alchemist, I will make you suffer.” Pride’s child-like face contorted in anger, the emotion did not suit the body.

Toshiro had had enough, he was ending this fight or it would continue all day. He needed to get back and help Blackstone’s and Oliver’s soldiers. He stilled his body and let his hand holding his ice blade drop at his side, he lifted his left to face Pride. Edward stopped to see what he was doing.

Blue wisps of light surrounded the Ice-storm Alchemist and seemed to move outward like silk ribbons. Pride seemed entranced by this new development and stilled his movements. Toshiro opened his eyes that glowed silver in the surrounding ribbons of light. He opened his mouth to speak and with it came an echoing voice that seemed to rumble, it sounded powerful and downright dangerous. “And I shall give you a reason why they call me the Ice Storm Alchemist.”

Edward raised his shaking hands to his chest, eyes opened wide. He admitted to being afraid- this new Storm seemed powerful and scary. Glancing at Riza and Roy, he noticed they weren’t as scared but they were worried. Edward’s legs trembled beneath him, he took a step back and noticed the dust falling from the ceiling. It was not his legs shaking but the whole damn building. He looked back at Storm, said Alchemist had dropped the shattered ice blade and spread his hands outward, it was mesmerizing. Edward swore he could hear thunder and feel electricity charging the air and he bet that it was Storm’s doing.

Toshiro was about the unleash his fury on the homunculus when a voice called out breaking the hypnotic movement. “Don’t do this Elijah, you’ll bring down the whole building on top of us!” it was Roy Mustang.

Toshiro turned to look at him in surprise. That was all Pride needed to strike. Toshiro could feel the trendils wrap around him before he could move, he looked in Pride’s direction. He glimpsed Edward behind him, mouth opened in a cry of ‘NO!’

A flash of pain and he knew no more.

Edward saw the momentary confusion of ‘Elijah’s' face as he turned to Mustang and Pride’s movements. Realizing his intentions, he’d snuck up behind the homunculus but it was too late.

He caught Elijah’s gaze at his turned to Pride, he also saw the trendils that wrapped tightly around him and slammed him to the ground. Edward, in panic, yelled out and struck pride but nothing could change what happed. As he moved a safe distance from the injured Pride and turned to Elijah, he almost forgot how to breathe.

On the ground, Elijah lay unnaturally still in a slowly growing pool of blood.
