Buying the tickets and boarding the train was particularly uneventful as there was a train running the route almost every day. Today seemed particularly cloudy and gloomy, almost as if it's telling a sad story.

ABROAD THE TRAIN

Alphonse and Storm sat on one side with Edward and Winry on the other.
There was a rather awkward silence and no one seem to know how to break it, that was until Al asked the first question. "So.... uh Storm, how did you meet Maes?"
Storm looked up at the mention of his name and realized that everyone was watching him. Surprisingly, his hood was down, revealing his white hair and teal eyes to everyone who looked at him.
"Well... um.." he stuttered
"You don't have to tell us if you don't want to." Ed spoke up.
"I'll tell you, but I understand if you don't trust me again or become angry at me, many hated what i was before, and still refuse to take even a second glance at me." despite saying this, there was no emotion in his face, and it sounded like if he'd said his hundreds of times to other people.
They looked at each other and nodded in Storm's direction for him to continue. "I was part of the Ishbalan war or what you call the Revolutionary war." Storm expected the looks of shock in his direction.
"My main job used to be that of a tracker, i worked behind the lines and was responsible for looking for all the enemy troops that used alchemy." Storm lowered his head. "Many may not know but with some types of alchemy, skilled users can use it..."
"To track down another, by the simplest of things such as a single drop of blood from the person they are looking for." recited Ed, "There are some little books or research on it that I was hoping I could ask you about it, and the type of alchemy you used. "
"I'll save that for later. Anyhow, that's when the user of the philosopher stone made himself known, we lost so many people that I was pulled in as a soldier." Storm looked.... scared, "Because of my good eyesight, I was given the title sniper." he was definitely shaking now, "Fifteen innocent lives were lost because of me and I had to watch them suffer because of my poor aim as I was never really trained in the use of guns." Al placed his large arm on Storm's shoulder.
"It was a cold morning, the sun had barely risen and I out on the roof again with the gun when I saw two men hiding in the building opposite, I tried to pretend I had not seen them but the light from the early sun reflected on my scope, giving my position away." Storm looked up for a brief moment before looking out the window. "They began firing, most of the bullets ricocheted on the walls but one caught directly on the barrel of my gun, causing it to back-fire as you can see." Storm lifted his bangs on the left side to show a small but surely painful scar.
"I panicked, I ran as fast as I could but they had already sent troops after me. "

Ishbalan war

Damn why am I doing this again? Toshiro questioned mentally I used to be a captain. Three years ago Aizen had discovered a new world, his plan was to cast Kurosaki there so he would fall into despair for as long as he lived but instead, at the last moment Hitsugaya pushed Ichigo out of the way and was thrown into this new world by the use of an 'alchemy circle' as Aizen called it. He was transported to this world and caught smack in the middle of another war in which the Ishbalans decided to include him in after they supposedly 'saved his life'.
What intrigued him the most was the 'gate of truth' with the promise of returning him home after protecting a person named '
Edward Elric'. The movement through this foreign gate caused some differences to his body how ever, and it was not about his change in height, what did those humans call it chimer-something, it upset him to not know about this.
He realized when taught about alchemy, that in his fight to save Kurosaki, he lost his zampacto and it was probably still on the other side, he felt at lost like no other. But he realized he had work to do and the faster his job was done the sooner he could go home, as such, he learnt to channel his ice powers with the snap of his fingers, track others and much more, but decided to use his powers as a last resort.
The Ishbalans taught him how to fight with daggers, small blades, lock-picking tools, anything sharp, he already knew how to use it.
The interruption of the alchemist that used the red stone caused him alot of problems and forced him to fight on the front lines, taking the lives of humans was strictly prohibited in shinigami rules and yet he was forced to break them.
........ Wow, way off track.
He scrambled to his feet, one hand wiping the blood away from his eye and the other pulling up his hood from the dusty, brown cloak.
Toshiro ran through the roof-top door and down the stairs to the bottom floor. Unfortunately, the Amestrian soldiers had already barricaded all the exits. D*** it Toshiro swore. The man in the back began shouting orders 'Shoot him! Now! Don't let him get away, he'll give our position, we've reached to far into Ishbalan territory for it too all be a waste!
Toshiro swore again under his breath, one advantage of being a shinigami is that it allows him to understand all languages but since passing through the gate, while he still understood, he had no idea how to pronounce it much less speak it. Spending three years with the Ishbalans, he learned the language well, but this was his first time interacting with Amestrian language.
He began backing up slowly, trying to return to the stairs in hope of another exit, it was all for naught as the men began firing rounds of ammunition. With skill movements from his training, he evaded all bullets. 'Fine then, if I can't use the stairs, I'll make my own exit, I'll have to go after the leader' in letting his guard down, the soldiers managed to surround him but it didn't matter as he pulled twin daggers from their sheaths at his sides and fell into a stance.
The guns began firing again, but this time he was prepared, he moved in a flash, dodging bullets and jumping over the soldiers, using his blades to disable their shooting hands without causing permanent damage.
He braced himself and flipped over a muscle-bounded man with a blond cowlick hairstyle and set his eyes on the leader, the man he'd later come to know as 'Roy Mustang'. He raised his daggers in order to do the job quick when silver suddenly flashed in the corner of his eye. Thank his quick reflects that he was able to miss the one aimed at his side but was struck by one on his arm, causing him to land roughly on the ground.
He jumped to his feet, grateful that his hood had not fallen. He tried to stop the bleeding but the damage was done, the nerves in his right hand were temporarily paralyzed. He looked at the owner of the kuni blade stuck in his hand, it was the man he'd later know as 'Maes Hughes'. It silver band around his finger caught his attention 'He has a family yet they sent him to war' Toshiro was irritated, he realized that the leader and the blade thrower were friends from the glances they took at each other.
Toshiro eyes widened slowly, he look towards the window closest to him, the soldiers slowly caught on and turned also. It was the sound of a bomb, one that was headed in their direction. 'HIT THE GROUND!' Toshiro yelled in Ishbalan, they may not have understood him, but they got the main idea.
Toshiro glanced at the leader and knife thrower, he swore lowly when he realized they both were frozen in action.
He ran towards them and in seconds before the bomb hit, he kicked the leader to the ground and used the momentum in his body to push the knife thrower out of the way. The sound was deafening and the ground shook tremendously, the building collapsed.
A loud ringing pierced the hearing of those still alive, Toshiro waited for his senses to slowly return, after a while, it came to his attention that his left hand was oddly warm, he then remembered his last minute save and found that his hand was resting on the chest of the knife thrower. The man was barely awake but was coughing from the thick dust in the air.
Pain was the next thing to come to the attention of Toshiro and alot of it. He couldn't hold the whimper that left his throat, he looked back and barely held back a scream, a thin pole from the scaffolding pierced his side cleanly while a large stone sat painfully on his left leg, he knew that even if he got out of here, he would never be able to walk without the aid of kido healing.
His whimper of pain seemed to rouse the knife thrower, that's when he noticed that his hood was down. The man slowly looked around before resting his eyes on the man that saved him, his eyes widened but before he could respond, the leader ran up to him.
'Maes, are you alright, can you move? We need to go now, before the building collapse. What are you looking...oh.' The man was at 'Maes' side, he then looked at Toshiro who had placed his head on the ground, close to passing out. 'Oh God, it's a child, we've been fighting a child, he's hurt. We have to get him out of here.' The rest became a babble to Toshiro, he faintly heard the leader call out to someone.
Suddenly the pain in his leg came back full force, he whipped his head behind him and saw the muscled person from before trying to move the stone from his leg. The stone shifted on his leg again and cursed himself mentally for the small scream of pain that left his mouth. Before he passed out, he remembered someone grabbing his hand.

End of flashback.

"Wait, so you ran took out Mustang's whole troop, saved him and Maes, got rescued by them and despite being mixed, Maes decided to adopt you, dang that's a heck of a story." Ed summarized.
"Don't forget, I had no idea how to speak your language, so looking back on it now, it was hilarious how Maes and Mustang tried to teach me how to talk." Storm added. "So I told you my story so what's yours, your choice of course."
"No it's only fair that we tell you." Al spoke up.
"Alrighty then, I'd say that his isn't for the light hearted but I'm sure you can handle it." Ed told the story of his mother's passing and the transmutation that costed him limbs and his brother's body, the joining of the military and the search for the red stone.
"The stone is a very dangerous thing." Storm eyes darkened, "It's not always what it seems, but if you wish to search for it, I want to join in, personally I have no use for the stone but if it gets you both back in one piece, why not?"
"WHAT!" Al shouted but lowered his voice, "You could get hurt or... or worse."
"I was, am a soldier, I've been in contact with the stone, I've seen what it could do, I can use my alchemy to help track it!" it was clear that Storm was getting irritated.
"Storm has a point, he can help you, and he's willing to, if it gets you your bodies sooner, take the help." Winry, who was oddly quiet, spoke up. Ed and Al looked at her shocked.
"But... but.." Ed protested.
"No buts, I'm in, and I promise I won't be in your way." Ed defeatedly accepted.
The rest of the train ride was once again awkwardly quiet.
