#19 Demon

I walk onto the platforms with my fellow members, our black heels clicking with each step. We stand in our sections and feel the heat of the lights on our faces. We look at the conductor who nods at us. She turns around and faces the audience.

"Good evening everyone, and thank you for coming. Welcome to the last choir concert of the year. Ahead of you, you will hear wonderful group pieces and solos. Please enjoy our first piece, the opening song from our last production, 'You're a Good Man Charlie Brown.' Please enjoy."

The audience applauds. Dhe turns to the podium, readying us with the conductor baton.

I wait on the side of the stage. Our intermission just started,but I wanted to make sure that I was prepared. My solo is right after intermission. I sing some scales to warm up my voice.

"Uh excuse me love" says someone interrupting.

"Oh, yes?" I turn to see the stage hand Robbie.

"I need to fix your microphone, we lost connection in the tech booth." He held down a button on his headset. "Yes I found her."

"Do you need to see the mic pack?" I ask.

"I that's all right with you." He smiles. Wow, he has a cute smile.

"Oh ok, that's fine." I turn and lift up the back of my crop top so that he can get to the pack which is attached to the back of my high waisted skirt.

His cold hands adjust it.

"So what song are you singing, Riley?"

"Demons by Imagine Dragons."

"I love that song!" he says. I hear a snapping sound. "Alright, you are all set."

I pull my shirt down and turn to him.

"Thanks." I smile.

He pushes the button again, "Did it connect? ....... Ok thanks mate."

"Well, I guess you better get back to the tech booth. Intermission is about to end."

"Nahh, I can stay here and talk to a pretty lady for awhile." He rubs the back of his neck. I smile and grab my guitar. I strum it just to make sure it is tuned.

"Hey Riley, do you think maybe after this we could go to the food court or something?"

"I-"

"Our next song will be sung by the talented Riley. Please welcome her." Says my teacher.

"Oh, Robbie I-" I point to the stage.

"Go ahead," he chuckles, "Break a leg."

I start to walk to the wing but then I turn quickly.

"Robbie!" He raised his eyes brows, "I would love to."

He smiles and nods.

"Go! Go!" He nods to the stage.

I quickly walk onto the stage an smile. I wave out to my friends who are cheering really loudly.

I sit on the stool and put a smaller mic in front of the guitar.

"Hi everyone, I'm Riley and I will be singing 'Demon' by imagine Dragons."

They applaud even more. I take a nervous breath. I look over at Robbie who is leaning against the wall with his arms crossed. His smile makes me feel more confident.

I strum the guitar, letting the beautiful song unfold.

Everyone stands up and cheers. I have never had a standing ovation before.

I bow and run off the stage.

Robbie takes me in a huge hug and spins me around.

"That was brilliant Riley! I never knew that you could sing, but hell, that was beautiful!"

"Thanks Robbie!" I blush, "I'm excited for the food court."

"Me too." He smiles.

"But we still have ten more songs to go through." I say.

"No we don't," He grabbed my hand, "c'mon, lets go now."

"But what if we get caught?"

"We won't, I never fail." He smiles.

We run and the back door and straight to his car. He opens the door.

"My lady." He smiles.

He closes the door. Is this real life?
