David and I let go of our embrace and I brought him inside. My mom and sister were sitting at the dining room table eating breakfast.

Jessi furrowed her eyebrows as she saw someone behind me, but recognition hit her face. "Oh my gosh," she said, getting up and coming towards us. "You're David Dobrik!"

My mom turned around, confused, as we entered the kitchen. David laughed and said, "Yeah, that's me."

"Wow, what are you doing here?" She asked.

Mom got up and walked towards us as well. "Guys, this is my friend, David. He came to.."
I started, but wasn't quite sure how to explain.

"Car called me last night and told me what happened. I can't even begin to imagine.. but I'm really sorry for your loss." David spoke up.

"Thank you, David." My mom said with a sad smile. She stuck her hand out and David took hers. "And I'm glad to meet you. Make yourself at home."

"Thank you," He said.

"Here, I'll show you to the guest room," my mom said, pointing down the hall.

"Okay," He said before smiling at me and following my mom.

I watched him as he walked down the hall of my childhood home, a sight I never even imagined I'd see. But here he was.

"So, what's going on between you and him?" Jessi asks me suddenly.

"Um, nothing." I said, walking around to the fridge in order to find a distraction. "He's with Liza."

"Carlie, I know you better than anyone else. You've got it bad." She said, raising her eyebrows.

I grabbed a couple of frozen waffles and some orange juice, setting it down on the counter. "Jess, no offense, but you're way off on this one. We're just friends." I say.

I put the waffles into the toaster and grab a glass and pour my orange juice. "So, you're telling me, that a friend would jump on a plane, last minute, all the way from Los Angeles to Chicago.."

I stared at my orange juice and then my waffles popped out of the toaster, making me jump at the sound. I looked up to Jessi and said, "We're just friends."

She put her hands up in defense. "Fine."

"I'm gonna go see if David wants any breakfast." I said, leaving the kitchen.

"Uh huh," she said, smirking.

I turned around and deadpanned her, which made her laugh, and then continued to the guest room. I knocked, but he didn't answer. I walked in and he wasn't there. Weird.

I turned around and went to my room, but I smacked into something hard and wet, pushing me back. "Oh!" I said.

"I'm so sorry!" David said, making me realize it was him.

I looked up to see David, hair dripping and nothing but a towel. My eyes lingered down and they shouldn't have, I shook my head and looked away. "No, I'm sorry-" I started before going to walk out, but he stopped me.

"Your mom said I could come shower.." he said, pointing to my bathroom, trying to explain. Makes sense now, there's no bathroom in the guest room.

"Ah," I said nodding, still avoiding looking at him.

"Why can't you look at me?" He said, and I could hear the smirk in his voice. I wanted to leave but he was between me and the door now.

"Um, I.. this is awkward, you're in a towel. Do I really have to explain?" I said, wanting nothing more than to either be out of that room or him to be out of that towel.
