Nikolai's POV

Classes were done for the day so I decided to relax for a bit down in my dorm's lobby. There were footsteps approaching quickly as I turned around wondering who was causing the noise.

"Hey Nik c'mon!" Wendy said as she ran inside.

"What's up?"

"Kevin called and he's on hold, he wants us to hang today and you know I'm not turning down a good free meal."

"I feel you on that.. Ever since I quit my job at the library, money has been tight and the cafeteria food is horrid."

"Did you see that chicken from yesterday? Undercooked ain't even the word."

"No and I'm glad I didn't." I said as we walked in and I grabbed the phone. "Hey Kevin! So, where are we going?"

"I was thinking the mall and then we could grab some dinner. "I'm off today and I missed ya."

"I've missed you too. I've got to tell you about the interview, how that went and stuff."

"Okay, great. I'll be there at 5, see y'all soon."

"Wendy he'll be here at 5."

"Great! You know it's crazy to me how you haven't heard anything about the job."

"I know. I haven't heard a thing from the nursing department either, maybe I didn't do as well as I thought after all."

"There you go doubting yourself. Cut yourself some slack, you've done exceptionally well."

I took a deep breath processing what she was saying.

She was exactly right.

We stood outside waiting for Kevin. Driving up in his black 1990 Chevy Camaro, he pulled into a park.

"Hey!" He greeted as I opened the passenger side door.

"Hey Kevin." Wendy and I both spoke. "Wendy take the back."

Letting the seat up, she got in. After she was adjusted, I got in myself.

"All set?" asked Kevin.

"We are."

"What are we going to the mall for?"

"Well Dionne's birthday is next week and I have yet to find her something."

"Hmm.. how is she by the way? We haven't seen her in awhile."

"She's good of course. I keep her that way."

"Let's not go there."

Dionne was Kevin's high school sweetheart, and she was a sweetheart indeed. We all liked her instantly, all except dad of course. She grew up with a different religious background and he wasn't comfortable with it. But, Kevin remained loyal and kept the relationship going, it's just one of his many ways in which he rebelled against dad.

"Is she still a hairstylist?" asked Wendy.

"She is. She wants to open up her own salon soon.

"I think she will." I said as Kevin pulled up to our local mall. "She's good at what she does."
