Resolved

The reason people find it so hard to be happy is that they always see the past better than it was, the present worse than it is, and the future less resolved than it will be.

-Marcel Pagnol

Eclair's POV

"Well that felt good!" A wide smile was plastered on his face as we walk towards the car.

"Huh. We got kicked out, you gained an unresolved case, sure it felt good."
Rex messed my hair up. The hair's unruly now.

"No need to be sarcastic. It was actually my first time to be kicked out, Mr. Montgomery's reaction was surprising."

My eyebrows met and together they formed a frown on my forehead.
"His reaction wasn't surprising. It was melancholic. So melancholic I wanted to paralyze him."

"Why?"

"Why what."

"Why would you paralyze him Pal?"

Its obvious!
"Because he's a coward."

Rex started the engine and we went back to the office.
"He was probably confused Pal."
I sighed.

"Rex I know you told me to hold back and I did. My best, I mean, my best to hold back, I did. But when Mrs. Davis was talking to you earlier I can hear her lies. She was telling the truth the first few questions but on the last one.."
The driver snorted.

"She lied."

"Hmm ...did you notice something strange about the lady we talked with earlier?"

Tche. I only heard her inconsistent heartbeat patterns. Aside from that, there was nothing left to observe.

"Her facial expression does not coincide with what she feels...? Or so it appears."

Rex looked very amused with what I said. I can tell its not the answer he was expecting.

"Hmm... She might be faking it. However we're not sure of that Pal. You can't assume things based on your own perspective, if its not logical, its not true."
Ah-Rex is very good at making me frown.

"Clean slate. Got nothing."

"That woman was not wearing any ring."
Is she supposed to? Ha! Damn she's married she was supposed to!

"What are you implying?"

"If a wife truly grieved for her significant other then she would not so quickly remove something that binds her with that person. Especially if the person is not yet below the ground. Now That implies that one, she's not grieving and two, she's not married."

Oh..

Now I understand.

-

"May I ask what changed your mind?"

We're back at the office currently facing the man who kicked us out of his very house.

"I thought about...things, detective. The reason I was feeling upset was because I blame myself for Mr. Davis' misfortune. If I hadn't been tricked so easily, if I hadn't been so trusting, then he might still be alive by now."

Rex and I were listening to him. Al's not here because he had to do a mission without me. Actually, that mission was to look for me. There's no way I can partake to that right?

I.am.so.dead. Though let's not be worried about that now, what's important is that Mr. Montgomery was able to man up and have courage to fight for justice instead of running away from it.
