Introduction

“Myka… Myka… Yo Myka… HEY!” Someone screamed in front of me making me jump. I looked to my left to see Kaycee and sighed. Not Gale. Kaycee. Kaycee Daniels, not Gale Fisher. I reminded myself then sighed. Why the hell do I feel so disappointed about that!? Gale’s the one who ditched me, his life long best friend since I fell off that boat during our 4th grade school field trip and he jumped in to save me as I couldn’t swim, and he ditched me with one month left of school until we’re meant to start college next year for them. Those people. The people everyone is terrifi- My thoughts were cut off by a slap to my face. A hard one too.

“Kaycee!” I shrieked at her clutching my now burning and red cheek.

“Oh finally Myka. Jeesh what is up with you lately? You’re going to be 18 tomorrow night and we really need to get these party details sorted.” Kaycee said but her endless chattering faded away into a murmur as my thoughts and reality caught up with me again. Why now? Why when my 18th birthday is tomorrow? What does he see in them? How did this even happen? I always imagined me and him planning my 18th together. Together… like we always were. But now he has them and it’s like the past 8 years didn’t even mean anything to him. Like I never even existed. And just when I was started to think that maybe, just maybe- Every muscle in my body tensed as I felt their eyes on the back of my head. Most of all his. That warm, forever changing brown and gold stare right at the back of my head.

“And so I was thinking of purple and this really nice sparkly grey-ish silver for the theme colours- Oh. My. God.” Kaycee’s instant babble abruptly stopped as her eyes widened and her mouth hung open.

“Please tell me it isn’t who I know it is.” I pleaded Kaycee.

“If you mean tell you it isn’t that freaky and terrifying but at the same time incredibly gorgeous and hunky group of guys and incredibly hot girls that belong in a Victoria’s Secret catalogue and who the mega hunky Gale has just joined, then sorry I can’t tell you it isn’t them.” Kaycee rambled on. Slowly I turned my head to meet head on the stare of Gale who was standing at the front and in the middle of a group of amazingly sexy guys and girls who were all staring at me also. But the only person I actually saw was me and Gale. No one else mattered when he was looking at me like that. My breath caught in my throat and I took a big gulp.

“Oh my God, that’s it! That’s why you’ve been so out of it lately and have been hanging around me lately. It’s because Gale’s with them now. Oh my God how could I not have known! Myka I am so sor-” Kaycee started rambling again but I cut her off.

“I have to go. Sorry Kaycee I’ll see you later.” I quickly said and jumped up then sprinted off before she could even try to argue. How the hell did my life go from great one week to the worst days of my life now!? More importantly, why? I asked myself as I ran with tears pouring down my face. Little did I know that just the next night my whole life would change. The next night, on my 18th birthday, at my party, at exactly 11:58pm when I officially turn 18, my whole world would change and I’d get all the answers to all my questions and more…
