*Myka's POV*

“Yo Myka! You almost ready? People are already starting to arrive!” Kaycee yelled from downstairs of my house. I looked in the mirror again just to check that my dress wasn’t tucked into the back of my panties or anything embarrassing like that. I took a deep breath and stared at myself. My wavy brown hair was never tame and cascaded down my shoulders messily. I was wearing a tight black one strapped dress with a sparkling black shawl-like piece of very thin material hanging off my bare shouldered arm. The dress was a little too short and fancy for my liking but when Kaycee saw that I had planned to wear my jeans and a top, she immediately ran to me the shops and bought this dress. When Kaycee’s on a mission, there’s no stopping her. I had a bronze necklace that I wrapped around my neck twice to hang low at different heights and had a gold star at the end. I was wearing a pair of matching bronze coloured closed toe high heels and had applied minimal makeup. I wasn’t anything special. I never understood why girls dressed up so much.

“Yeah, yeah I’m coming!” I yelled back to Kaycee as I heard the doorbell ring. I quickly tried pulling the dress down lower again but it didn’t really work. I sighed at my reflection then left my room making sure to lock it as well as my parent’s room and any other room I didn’t want people entering. It was exactly 8 o’clock. The music started as I went downstairs and joined everyone else around the house dancing.

“Myka!” Kaycee screamed my name from the front door at 11:50pm.

“Kaycee!” I replied as I stumbled around the corner from upstairs holding a cup of lightly alcohol spiked coke.

“Myka!” She screamed again.

“I’m here!” I yelled back as I started descending the stairs. I had to hold onto the wall next to me as I swayed a bit and dropped my cup making a giant splash and brown coke stain on the carpet of the stairs. I guess there’s more alcohol in this than I thought. Right in front of me at the front door stood Kaycee and with her were all of them. The real shock was seeing Gale. I quickly regained my composure and walked down the stairs.

“Ah there she is! And looking stunning might I say.” Gale exclaimed as I reached them and he held his arms open for a hug. Instead I slipped right past him to stand next to Kaycee.

“What are they doing here?” I asked her.

“I don’t know. That’s why I was just asking where their invites were.” She replied giving a pointed look to Gale.

“Last I heard, this was a free for all party with no invites. Anyway if I needed an invite, it’s standing looking beautiful right here.” Gale replied casually sliding an arm around my shoulders. I slipped out of his arm quickly and turned around to face him.

“You’re not welcome here.” I stated glaring angrily at him. I can’t believe after just ditching me like that, he expects me to just let him in when all he wants is to get into this party! A few compliments here, a few compliments there, well it’s not going to work!

“Come on Myka. We’ve been waiting for this day ever since I saved you from drowning on our 4th grade field trip! You were at my 18th, heck you even planned it. Now it’s time to celebrate yours!” Gale said grinning at me.

“She said she doesn’t want you here.” Kaycee said sliding up next to me.

“Why’re you here, Daniels?” Gale sneered rudely at Kaycee.

“Don’t speak like that to her! You’ve changed Gale, you really have. Kaycee’s my friend and she’s a much better one than you ever were!” I yelled at him lifting my hand to slap him. He grabbed my wrist amazingly fast before I could even make contact with his face and he grabbed my other hand too just as I was about to start pounding my fist on his chest. He pulled me in close by my wrists.
