*Myka's POV*

“What’s next?” Tresean asked from next to me.

I have a free period. And I know for a fact that the rest of you have classes to go to.” I replied.

“We go where you go.” Marcus said.

“No. You all go to classes. I have a free and I plan to spend it outside reading a nice novel. I doubt you would all want to sit there while I read.” I told them all.

“Don’t worry. I have a free too. I’ll stay with Myka, the rest of you go to class.” Tyler said slinging an arm over my shoulders.

“You don’t have a free.” I turned to him doubtfully.

“Actually I do. You just don’t realise because you’ve always got your head stuck in a book.” He said. I rolled my eyes shaking his arm off.

“Fine whatever. See I have Tyler now, you can all go to classes.” I told everyone else. Reluctantly they started leaving with only Gale linguring behind.

“You’ll be okay?” He asked in a low voice.

“I’ll be fine. I’ll see you at lunch.” I answered giving him a quick hug before letting go and turning around.

“We’ll be in the library.” Tyler called back as we started walking in the other direction.

“Library?” I asked him raising one eyebrow. A small smile played along his lips.

“I have something to show you.”

“How did you find this?” I asked running my hands over the cover of the book in disbelief.

“A lot of hours of searching, a little demon magic here and there and really luck. That book was hidden under the staircase. Obviously someone didn’t want it to end up in the wrong hands.” He answered. The book was obviously old, centuries old. It was a dark bottle green colour covered in this kind of spiralling gold plating all over the book that fashioned into a sturdy lock at the side. There was no writing or anything, except for a tiny symbol on the lock. The symbol was an exact copy of my flower. The same one that was with me when my parents found me, and the same one in the garden back at the mansion.

“But why would it be hidden at the school?” I wondered.

“Exactly the same thing I thought.” Tyler replied.

“I just- it doesn’t make any sense. Do you even know how to open this thing?” I asked trying to pry the lock open with just my fingers. The only thing that did was end up with the book thumping back down on one of the library tables. I sighed and leaned my arm on the book with my head in my hand.

“That’s what I was thinking you could figure out. Seeing as it does have your flower on it.” He answered. I just sighed again.

“After years and years, libraries and libraries of searching, the book was right at the school library all this time. And now that we have it, I can’t even open it. This book could tell me all about my real parents, who they are, where they came from, where I came from, who I am, what I am.” I ended thumping my head on the table next to the book.

“We’ll work it out.” Tyler assured me.

“Thank you so much for finding this. It would’ve taken hours. And I’m grateful. I really am.” I said looking up to smile at him.

“I’d do anything for you. I’d die for you, Myka.” He replied seriously. My smile faltered.

“Sure. Can demons even die?” I asked jokingly.
