**Myka's POV**

Kaycee was getting frustrated. So far all she had managed to do that was painful was slap me after I laughed when she poured a circle of salt around me. Some faerie theory or something. She’d been about half way through the list so far and nothing had worked.

“Don’t you think this is getting a little old by now?” I asked as she pulled a tiny tub out of the wooden chest. She didn’t reply, instead just unscrewed the cap on the tub and threw the silver powder all over me. I just stared at her, trying not to smile as she let out a frustrated growl and threw the now empty tub at the opposite wall, effectively smashing it into hundreds of tiny pieces.

“Stupid, stupid, stupid!” She muttered kicking the chest. “Why aren’t you hurting!? What’s your kryptonite?” She yelled turning to me. I was at a loss for words.

“I think I’d like to know that myself, actually.” I answered quietly, not wanting to encourage her into hitting me again.

“It’s got to be something.” She complained and returned to the chest with a new gleam and seeming even more determined than before. Pulling out a necklace with a cross on it, she moved over to me. Immediately my necklace turned even colder and seemingly stonier, however I paid no attention to it not wanting to tip Kaycee off. For some reason I didn’t want her knowing about the necklace, even though there was no way she could get it off.

“I don’t think that’ll work. I can enter churches you know.” I said as she shoved the necklace into my hand. As she roughly moved my hand to grasp the cross, I gasped as the metal of the handcuff around my wrist dug into my skin. A smile slipped onto Kaycee’s face at the sound, probably thinking the cross had actually hurt me. Instead to prove her wrong I started to chant the Lord’s Prayer that my grandmother had made me memorize when she took me to church as a child.

“Our Father, which art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive them that trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, for ever and ever.” I stopped to look up into her glaring face. “Amen.” I finished with a smile. A loud crack sounded as she slapped me again. My cheek hit the cold, brick wall I was chained to leaving scratches and scrapes.

“I don’t think you realise just how much trouble you’re in right now. You could be dead any second from now on. Are you sure you want to test my patience with smartass comments?” She threatened in a low tone.

“Well,” I drawled, “seeing as I’m probably going to die anyway, I figure why not die having fun? And what better fun than messing around with the people who want me dead the most?”

“You’re impossible, you know that?” She sneered as she pulled away from the wall and me.

“I’ve been told that a few times.” I tried to shrug but that just caused the chains to dig into my wrists again. I tried not to show my wince as it happened, luckily Kaycee’s back was to me.

“So uh, how much longer till your dad gets here? You’re starting to bore me, no offense or anything.” I asked. She turned to glare at me again.

“Soon. Very, very soon.” I don’t know if it was just me, but her eyes seemed to glaze over and turn darker with a malicious gleam that had my false bravado slowly slip. “That’s great. I can’t wait to meet him.” I smiled not giving any hint to the mental screaming inside my head.
