*Zack's POV*
“I’m surprised you’re so focused on finding Myka.” I mused out loud making Jenny suddenly stop and turn to me. She stared at me for a few moments before a frown crossed her face.
“She’s important to Gale. He’s royalty among my pack, so of corse I would do anything to help him.” She responded. I looked at her for a bit before speaking.
“Are you sure that’s the only reason?” I asked.
“Look if you’re trying to say something, please just say it.” She huffed. For a moment I considered just staying silent, however decided against it this time.
“Are you into him?” I blurted, silently cursing myself for it. She looked taken aback.
“Look, I know. He likes Myka. He obviously has for a while. I just- I need to get over it. I know that. He’ll never be with me. He’s my superior, it’s not even allowed in my world.” She shrugged.
“I know what that’s like. It sucks.” I replied. Her head snapped up to face mine.
“You like someone you can’t have?” She asked. You have no idea.
“Something like that. She’s really into this other guy.” This time I shrugged, putting my hands in my pants pockets.
“Well… what about Zaira? She seems really into you.” She gave a tentative smile, as if she wasn’t sure of my reaction. I just sighed, running my hand through my hair.
“Yeah we used to have a thing, but that’s over. I fell, and things changed. She deserves someone better, someone who’ll love her just as much as she loves them. I’ve moved on, and she needs to as well.” I said dropping my hand to my side again.
“That’s so sweet. You still care about her.” Her voice was soft, sweet. You don’t normally hear her like that, and I liked the sound of it. This new side of Jenny.
“I just want the best for her.” I shrugged again. We fell into silence again as we kept walking. Just as we were about to turn around another corner, Jenny suddenly stopped and I crashed into the back of her. Embarrassed I quickly moved away.
“Wh-” but I was cut off as she shoved her hand in my face.
“Shh! Listen.” Was all she said. Resisting the urge to roll my eyes, I instead listened to silence. Then, someone talking. Jenny quickly sniffed the air, and her face turned to look like she just ate a sour lolly.
“Kaycee…” She mouthed. Quickly I looked around the corner to see Kaycee on the phone as she walked down the street we were going to turn onto. My eyes widened, matching Jenny’s as I hid back around the corner.
“We need to text Gale.” She whispered, already getting her phone out. Quickly I stopped her putting my hand over her phone.
“No, let’s just see where she goes first. Maybe she’s going to Myka.” I said.
“You- you mean you want to follow her? The Devil’s daughter?” She asked.
“Well when you put it like that… yeah.” I shrugged.
“You’re one crazy mother fu-” quickly I cut her off with my hand covering her mouth. Removing my hand, she spoke quieter.
“Gale’s going to be so pissed if he finds out we didn’t text him right away.” She grumbled but I took that as an okay.
“We can worry about that later. I think she’s gone around the corner. We’ve got to move fast before we lose her. If we lose her, then Gale will be really pissed.” Swiftly I moved around the corner and ran to crouch behind someone’s brick letterbox. Jenny followed silently. Staying close to each other but silent, we followed Kaycee down the street.
