I woke up to sirens, lots of them. I bolted upright and looked out the window. There is crime scene tape around a house four doors down from ours. I get ready within ten minutes and bolt out of the door. Ashley and Dylan were standing as close as they could get, but I spotted Alex standing farther away. I walked up to him.
"What happened?" I asked quietly.
"Two girls were found dead, drained of blood." He stated. I whipped to look at him. To my dismay, I saw him licking his lips.
"You didn't.." I denied. He looked to me, a smirk on his face. "No, No you didn't"
He just shrugged.
He did this.
I turned and stood right in front of him and searched his eyes for any sign of remorse, anything that could redeem him but I just saw cruel laughter flickering in his eyes.
"I'm a vampire Jess, a predator. Predators need to hunt." He stated calmly. I felt my blood boiling in my veins, my head was pounding, and It felt like my arteries were going to explode.
How dare he!
All of a sudden, without thinking, I smacked him right across the face. Alex's expression projected rage. His eyes flashed in a way that was all too familiar. I gasped. It had only been about two seconds and a red hand print was visible on his cheek. I my heart started hammering as Alex gave me a quaking stare, as if he was going to kill me, but he was trying to think of the most gruesome and painful way to do it. So I ran. I ran as fast and hard as I could. I didn't check to see if he was pursuing me, he obviously hadn't because if he had, I'd be dead since my abilities don't hold a candle to his. I bolted into the house, not even shutting the door, and up into my room. I slammed the door shut and slid down it, sobbing. This wasn't the first time this had happened. He used to kill people. I shook from the memories and crawled to my bed. Time had past. I wasn't sure if it was hours, minutes, or even seconds, but I heard a soft knock at my door. To which I didn't answer. It opened slowly and Ashley's face popped out. She used to find me like this all the time. She would to find me in ruins and each time, she'd pick me back up.
"Aw baby." She whispered, then rushed up to my bed and sat on it. She scooted closer to me and gave me a long hug, shushing me the entire time.
"It's happening again." I cried.
"No it isn't. He isn't going to get you." She said sternly. I nodded into her chest.
See what I told you? He played you. He's got you wrapped around his finger.
I struggled not to listen to the voice in my head. After I had calmed down, I explained everything that had happened.
"I have an idea." Ashely exclaimed.
"What?" I asked.
"Make him jealous. We can get Dylan in it! DYLAN! GET YOUR ASS IN HERE!"
"WHAT?" He screamed when he reached my door. Ash and I giggled.
"You are going to help Jess make Alex jealous! And it's perfect because you live with us!" She exclaimed.
"No. No way. No fucking way!" He protested.
"People are dead Dylan. I have to end this, please?" I begged.
"UGH FINE."
"Great! Dylan, you'll start flirting first, she wont respond positively for a while because we don't want Alex to catch on to what we're doing." Ashley confirmed.
"It starts when he gets here." I said. Dylan stomped out leaving Ash and I with bright smiles.
I had started cooking dinner when Alex came home. Stir fry is a reasonably easy dinner to make.
"Hmm smells good." He encouraged. I rolled my eyes and Dylan walked in the room.
"Hi, Jess." He pretended to be shy.
"Hey Gaskarth, could you turn the air on? It's getting hot in here." Alex scoffed and went to do as I asked.
"This smells fantastic." He enthused. I had to bite my lip to keep myself from laughing, Dylan was very convincing. The entire time I was cooking, Dylan would come over every two minutes to check on things and tell me how good it looked and smelled. Every time he did this, Alex would roll his eyes or scoff. Once it was ready and we were eating, Dylan exaggerated even more about how good my cooking was. It was obvious Alex had grown tired of the topic.
"So I'm going to play at the bar around the corner tomorrow night." He stated.
"Racers?" I asked, he nodded in response. Dylan took this opportunity.
"Oh that sounds like fun, do you want to maybe come with me Jess?" Dylan asked, pretending to be nervous.
"Sure!" I replied, as if I had been hoping he'd ask me.
"Okay you know what? I'm going to bed." Alex muttered before taking his plate and leaving the room.
"It's work-" Ashley started to exclaim.
"Shhhhh" I interrupted, tapping my ear to signal that he can still hear us. Once we heard his bedroom door close, was when we started to celebrate in hushed tones.
