Genevieve~

“Oh my god! Genevieve, you look amazing!!!” Eve squealed. Genevieve stood before the mirror, looking at her reflection while Eve was jumping excitedly behind her. Who the heck is that in the mirror?! She thought, amazed by the sight. She was dressed in a sleeveless baby blue dress with a light pink belt and a layered skirt that was just above her knees. Eve went light on her make-up as well and she wore light eye shadow and pink lip gloss. Genevieve’s eyes widened and her mouth opened with shock.

“Thank you Eve!” Genevieve exclaimed happily, “This looks damn amazing!!” Then, Eve smiled and hurried off to put on her own outfit. Genevieve put on the ocean blue flats and grabbed the midnight blue purse Eve lent her for the occasion. She smiled, it was her first homecoming, and Genevieve might as well enjoy it while she could.

“I am ready!” Eve said while rushing down the stairs. She was wearing heavier colours, a black detective dress, red pumps and tight black leggings. Eve smiled at Genevieve, “We could be the angel and devil pair today!” She mused. Genevieve laughed at that comment, “We are going to be late, it’s already 6.30pm. Homecoming starts at 7pm!” She told Eve while dashing out of the house and to the car. Eve followed suit and they hurriedly drove to the school.

“I wonder if Jeff is impatient already.” Eve smirked and eyed Genevieve for a second, tearing her eyes away from the road. Genevieve’s face turned pink with embarrassment. “Perhaps… he is going to confess to you today?” Eve continued teasing, making Genevieve’s face redder and warmer. They were chatting about the latest radio hits, just then, Genevieve’s mobile rang.

“Hello?” She chirped.

“Hey milady. Ready for tonight?” Jeff asked her and Genevieve turned pink till it was a perfect match with her belt. Eve was too busy singing along to ‘wrecking ball’ by Miley Cyrus to notice. “Ah… maybe?” She replied, unsure of what to say to him.

“Are you going to ditch me last minute?” Jeff suddenly blurted out, his voice a bit frantic, and Genevieve blinked in surprise. She laughed and then sighed.

“Yeah! I decided I’d go with Eve tonight. Go find yourself another date.” She snorted, and there was a pregnant pause on the other line. Genevieve’s heart skipped a beat. What if he thought it was true and he ditched her instead?

“You are kidding me right?” He asked with a slight tremble in his tone. Genevieve laughed and said very sarcastically, “No I am not kidding, you know I just found out Eve was a better dancer than you are so I am choosing her over you. End of story.” Jeff on the other line heaved a sigh of relief.

“I can’t wait to see you tonight.” He told her, and Genevieve smiled, “I will see you soon. Miss you.” She reassured him. Genevieve could literally feel Jeff smiling on the other end.

“Love you too.” Jeff breathed and Genevieve hung up. Eve killed the engine suddenly and the car came to an abrupt halt. Remind me never to ever let Eve ride ever again.

“We have reached, milady.” Eve teased and got out of the car. Genevieve slammed the car door and walked to the auditorium where the homecoming was held. The air was cool, a sign that winter was approaching, and leaves fell from the trees, leaving them bare in the cold. Genevieve stepped into the snowflake decorated auditorium.

“Oh! I almost forgot.” She murmured to herself and opened her purse, taking out a pink coloured mask. It was a masked party after all. She also wore the sapphire necklace Jeff gave her so he could recognize her in the crowd. As she walked through the crowd, she saw familiar faces dancing with each other. The guys that always disturb Ms Green in Math class… the queen of complains whom slapped her on the first day of school. Soon, she was lost in the crowd, Eve was nowhere in sight. Bodies moved and danced to the music blasting through the speakers. Then, the crowd cleared and she stumbled upon the school garden, where there were people who wanted peace. Three figures walked towards me.

“Jeff? Ron? Veronica?” Genevieve called out. They waved and Genevieve rushed out to them. She spotted Ron and Veronica holding hands and immediately smiled. Perhaps there was some chemistry between them… Genevieve hugged Jeff who in return kissed her on the forehead.

“Ron and I shall excuse ourselves. Have a great time!” Veronica told Genevieve and Jeff and pulled Ron away and into the auditorium. Jeff switched on his phone and played a song that Genevieve faintly knew. ‘Can We Dance’ by the Vamps. Jeff bowed and stretched out his hand to dance. Genevieve gracefully accepted it and they danced under the full moon and bright twinkling lights of the stars.

All I have to say is can we dance. Jeff spun Genevieve around and into his arms. He steadied her and smiled, “You look amazing tonight.” He complemented, making Genevieve blush, under the moonlight, she noticed he was wearing a black mask and a white suit and black tie. He looked so different from the normal Jeff, instead he looked more… professional.

That’s all I have to say so baby can we dance. Jeff spun Genevieve around and held her in his arms as she fell into him. She blushed beetroot red and stammered out, “You…look great…too.” Jeff gave her a smile, and they continued dancing.

You know I need you girl, my heart’s not made for someone else. Jeff stepped closer to her, till they faces were inches apart. Genevieve felt herself smiling. It was just so perfect...

I have been a bad, bad boy, whispering rude things in your ear. Genevieve was shocked when she felt herself lifted from the ground and into the air by Jeff and spun around. Then he hugged her close to him and told her three words, “I love you.” Then he placed her on the ground and kissed her cheek.

Genevieve opened her mouth to tell him something, “I…”

BANG! A gunshot echoed into the night. Jeff looked up and saw a sniper running from the auditorium roof. Everyone was panicking and running away from the scene. Jeff looked at Genevieve who was still in his arms. She was barely conscious. Then she blanked out.

Jeff~

Genevieve was covered in blood, the bullet was lodged in somewhere near her spine, her clothes were soaked in red. Ron was running towards them, with Veronica and Eve at him side.

“Genevieve!!! Wake up!” Jeff shrieked, “Help!” He sank to the ground with her still in his arms. Ron’s eyes were hiding something as he called the ambulance.

“Let her go!” Eve commanded Jeff, who was not very obliging to let her out of his sight. He squeezed Genevieve’s hand, fear gripped him and a sour taste filled his mouth. “Please Genevieve stay alive.” He begged, pressing his forehead on her hand, “I need you.” He choked out.

Eve listened to Genevieve’s heartbeat and then froze for a while. Her eyes were then filled with tears. Jeff looked at her in hope that Genevieve was still alive.

After a few hesitations...

“Genevieve stopped breathing.” She told him, while trying not to choke on her tears.
