the cat

I picked up a cat on my way home, black as the night it was and it's eyes like the stars.

this cat was named, seeing by the collar, no one wanted it, how unfortunate... it's name was ánchos.

the cat made itself at home, curled up in my bed, merrily was it. I thought to myself, after those past few days, who would give up such a beautiful cat?

one morning, I awoke to a growl and it frightened me to no end, but I only found the cat to be sleeping peacefully.

I continued about my day, but kept hearing a growl and hiss puncture my ears, even when I was miles away from home.

I come home to the cat happily waiting at my doorstep. it greets me with soft purrs and figure eights between my legs.

I notice the food bowl is completely empty, odd considering I had filled it to the brim, maybe too much. however the black cat meowed at it, for more.

I grab the food and pour with a few clicks against the hard plastic, again, to the brim.

the next few mornings, the growling and hissing became louder, but I ignored it as I noticed the cat asleep each time. as I ready to walk out the door for the day, the cat was sat by the food bowl... empty... I furrow my eyebrows and notice the weight on the cat had changed immensely past each morning. fat was the cat, the eyes were no longer like stars either.

I decide against feeding the cat and leave for the day. as I walk into the world I notice something... then I fall to my knees and scream. the hissing and growling was now louder than ever and there was stinging up and down my thighs, my stomach, and my arms... I rush back inside to find the cat by the bowl, claws out. I feed the cat... and the pain stops.

before I leave, I run into the bathroom to take a shower to clear my mind, but as I notice when i strip my clothes... blood is dripping down my arms, my stomach, and my thighs... scratch marks covered my body, and my eyes are bloodshot along with my lips pale.

I look over to see the cat.
black as suffocation and eyes like hypnotization.

after that day, I've continued to live with the cat. like a parasite ánchos is, it always feeds when it's hungry and intends to inflict when it's not fed. without this cat, however, what would light even be outside the world.

and so... I let the cat scratch me when it's hungry, because at this point, it feeds on blood.
