I sat on the small futon that he had in his room, it wasn't a large room. But a decent size for a single. There was a full size bed, a door which I assumed lead to a bathroom. Another which I could only guess was a closet. He had a desk that was cluttered with papers. Along his walls were posters, of ships, past war heroes. He really was a child.
But on a nightstand besides his bed was a picture frame. It was of our family, Cain took notice of my eyes resting on it. He walked over picking it up, looking at it he smiled.
"I remember this day so clearly." he said, "you were fifteen, I was thirteen. Mom wanted a nice picture of us all. I didn't want to wear that stupid outfit." he sat down besides it. We looked at it together. In the photo, he was wearing a light blue tunic and tan pants that looked a size to big. I had been wearing a light grey dress. The top to my waist was form fitting, while the skirt of the dress was loose.
"Mom had dad literally force you into that shirt. You even kept purposefully messing up your hair!" I recalled. His hair then had started to grow out, it was slightly shaggy.
"Yeah, well it was ugly. But mother bribed me to sit still for those candy's father had stashed away from Yavin. They were so good!"
Looking at my mother, she looked so beautiful. So majestic. Dare you ever see her in the streets, you'd think she was royalty. She surely looked like it. She wore a dress like mine, but with dark grey patterns on the long sleeves and going down the front of the skirt. A small, light hood barely covered her brunette hair. Which fell so elegantly over her shoulders, small braids were seen in it. You could see the ring my father gave her, as her left hand rested on Cain's shoulder.
My father, wore an outfit similar to my brothers. But his fit better, he had long blonde hair. Half of it was pulled back into a braid, his eyes were so gentle. His right hand resting on my shoulder. He was a kind man, smart and wise. He never would hurt a soul, not even a pesky fly. And although they only wore small, warm smiles. They were full of love for us, for Naboo, for life. Cain set the frame down besides him on the futon.
"I miss them, too." It wasn't until he said that, that I noticed tears once more threatening to fall. He rubbed my shoulder supportively.
"Didn't think I'd ever see a cold blooded bounty hunter cry." He joked, but his voice said otherwise. I shifted uncomfortably, once more he took notice to my change of mood. He sighed, hanging his head only to look back at me.
"Poe told me everything you said about that night. And if I'm one hundred percent honest with you, if I had been there to see that. The way you did. I don't think I could keep myself from following the same path you did." I looked at him shocked.
"Cain, what. . . What I've done, I don't think you could do. Not that you don't have the ability. But, you're like father. Your heart is too pure to do what I've done." I spoke softly, I filled him in on everything. From the beginning. My intense training, my near death encounters, who from the Resistance has fallen to by my hand. And he listened, no judgement crossed his eyes. I told him how I met Poe Dameron, and Rey.
"Well Dessi, you definitely have a tale to tell." He leaned back, still processing the information. Before he could start filling me in, there was a knock at the door. Our heads shot up, instinctively my hand went to my waist. Which was dumb being that I had no means of weapons on me, and the only threat was if I became violent. Cain just looked at me funny, he got up and went to the door.
Opening it, Dameron was revealed, Cain quickly stood at attention to his commander. Peering in, he found me. He smiled at my brother.
"Sorry to cut this short, but General Organa has requested to speak with Odessa." He informed him. Taking in a deep breath, I stood up. Walking over to the two men.
"Can I have a different change of clothes first?" I squeaked out. Poe looked at me with a funny half smile. Chuckling in the slightest, he nodded.
"Why, Dessi? I think rags are so in right now." Cain teased me. Poe choked on a laugh, and as soon as I looked at him sternly he recomposed himself.
"Sorry, thought you were a pilot. Not a fashion critic." I retorted. How long it's been since I've teased my brother. How long it's been since we've fought, or had anything. And good god did it feel so good to have him back.
"This way, Paki. We'll get you some fresher rags." Poe got in the joke. Huffing, I followed the man. Not leaving without shooting my brother a glare, he just shot me a bright smile. When he did that he looked just like our father. Dameron lead me through the hallways, to a door. He knocked on it, seconds later a girl maybe my age opened it. She looked at me first, slight shock in her eyes that I was there. But her eyes went to Poe, smiling at him.
"Poe Dameron, how can I help you today?" She asked leaning on the door, arms crossed over her chest. She was wearing black sweatpants that cinched at her calves, and a green loose short sleeve. Her hair was up in a bun. She was beautiful to say the least.
"Paige, um, well it's not what you can do for me. More so her." He gestured to me with his thumb. "She kind of needs a change of clothes for the moment." Paige looked me up and down. 'Hmph', and she motioned for me to come in. Poe followed, but before he was more than three feet in the door she spun on her heel.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa. I get that you're the big man on base, but that doesn't mean you get to see the new girl change." My cheeks felt hot, I looked at him surprise in my eyes. He held his hands up in defense, walking backwards.
"I'll be right outside." And with that he walked out, closing the door behind him. Paige was already at her closet, her room was the mirror image of my brothers. Other than different decor. She started throwing clothes on the bed.
"So. Is it true?" she asked softly, turning her head to look at me briefly. I looked at her confused, beckoning for her to continue.
"That you're Kou." She finished, biting my lip.
"Was, I was Kou." Her head snapped to me. Curiousity in her eyes.
"Why the change? You don't seem like a killer." Paige stated, grabbing a pair of boots.
"Do you know Cain Paki?" I asked, her eyes widened then showed a sense of knowing. A smirk on her face.
"Got the hots for the upcoming next best pilot besides Dameron?" She teased, I tried not to laugh and kept a serious face.
"He's my brother."
