Beep Beep Beep

I watch the monitor as the tiny red line goes up and down and I tense in anxiety every time the hills go a bit smaller then I would like. I lean over in the uncomfortable wooden chair and rest my head in my pale, petite hands.

I look at the sight again, covering my eyes once more when I saw the small blood splotches on her golden hair. Her cheerful chocolate brown eyes temporarily closed. Her bubbly personality seemed to be shut down.

I take a peek at the calendar, not even feeling anything when I see that it's just a few more days till Christmas Eve. (I know, it's January 8th but let Author-Chan do her thing.) This scenario...it's so nostalgic..and I hate that it is.

I sigh as I stand up, a wave of dizziness washing over me as black splotches appear in my line of vision. I simply ignore the familiar feeling as I continue walking, the black splotches now covering my entire line of sight. I take a quick stop, leaning onto the counter as the black spots slowly disappear, leaving me to feel extremely light-headed.

"I should go get her some water, in case she's thirsty when she wakes up." I mutter to myself, walking out of the room. I pass through the waiting lounge, glancing at Natsu and seeing him so stressed makes me stress. I look away, tucking a piece of my brown hair behind my ear. I walk into the cafeteria, pouring a glass of water.

This reminds me of dad... how he looked so lifeless on the bed, fighting for his life until the monitor had to announce he failed the battle of survival.

I've never liked heart monitors.

They were like tests. Tests that you were forced to take, unprepared for, and all the others are silently screaming and telling you that you have to pass, building up on your anxiety on the impression that you simply must succeed.  You study and study. Everyone is watching your every move, getting excited every time the hills are bigger, and getting disappointed when they're smaller. And when you pass, you're showered in praises.

But not everyone is so lucky.

Some forget to study, some don't understand, some give up.

And so the consequences start.

You get nervous, you lose focus, ...you fail.

And before you already know it, you're punishment has arrived, and the people around you mourn for your failure, some longer then others, but they learn to move on. All of them do.

They--

"Miss, you're spilling the water all over the counter." I look down at my drink, seeing that the water was well overflowed and had already made a puddle on the ground. "O-Oh! I'm sorry, I'll clean it up!" I say frantically, grabbing the cloth I always carry around. But as I'm wiping away my mess, I can't help but think,

Will Lucy pass?
