[Woooo okay hello to those who ACTUALLY read this. I apologize for the last author's note, and will try to keep these to a minimum. Just a reminder! I can start a chapter on one day, and finish it a week later because I'm semi-busy. My mother is moving and I have to bring all of my stuff to my dad's.
Anyway, thank you for reading!]
I sighed and walked home after that little fiasco. Not only had I managed to get my 'groceries', but had managed to nearly have the ice cream melt. This was going to be a pain, and I'm not entirely sure if I can freeze it, since Mom raids the fridge like no tomorrow.
I shivered and ducked my head down from the cold. It may be just Spring, but this town has seen more cold fronts in a month during Spring then I wanted to see, ever. I walked inside the house, immediately rushing to the kitchen to throw this in the freezer when I hear my mom go, "Raelynn?" I stopped and sighed, heading towards my mom's room. This was going to be interesting since my mom is actually home for the moment, that still didn't mean I wanted her to call me by my full name.
"Yes?" I tried not to whisper, giving her a convincing smile. "Where is your brother?" She turned to me, a tired expression clearly on her face. My mom was pretty, but exhaustion and fatigue did not help that. She had dark green eyes like me, dark brown hair, high cheek bones, and an hourglass figure. I looked almost exactly like my mother, very few traits came from my father. I had my mother's dark hair, green eyes, her nose, and her height but I had my father's eye shape, hands, and stamina if that makes sense.
"No, I just got back home, I try to avoid him." She nodded and pulled me into a hug, to which I tensed up. I wasn't ever close to my mom, and certainly not now. She sighed and stepped back, looking at a picture of my family. Dad was standing by Mom with the cheesiest grin ever and Mom was smiling just as goofy, and I was pressed to Dad's stomach, since I was only six and my brother was being irritating. He had a hand on my shoulder and my brother was close to my mom's feet, too close to me.
We looked like a family, and soon that all changed... Dad was a complicated subject to talk about. His job took him everywhere, and since he wouldn't be able to a part of the family for three years at the minimum, so he left. He divorced my mom when I was twelve and I hadn't seen him since, till this year. My mom of course allowed him to come back, since she still loved him, but he had changed. However, he was always drunk now, and just sat on the couch all day, cursing me as I ran by.
My brother always idolized my father for everything he was. It was sickening. So my brother acts like him. Momma has tried to ask my father to leave, and he just refuses, and I don't like it. "You know what happened today?" She smiled, a smile wide on her face. I looked around, the room seemed eerily empty. "No, what?" "I got him to leave," "Who?" My eyes widened. "Your father," She laughed, hugging me tightly. "Oh my God," I said, my eyes wide, and I hugged back.
"I told him I would call the cops for abuse or he would leave, and he did the smart thing," She smiled, dancing around the room. Even for a woman in her forties, she still had spunk. I smiled an actual smile for the first time in a while. I can't believe she did that.
"That's...great," I shifted my hand, "Okay, I have ice cream and I need to go put it up," "Okay, shoo shoo," She waved me out. I bolted downstairs to put it in the freezer, and walked up to my room. I pulled out my phone, scrolling to Lacie's name, my finger hovering over the button. I never called her, she always called me. What if she was busy?
I shook my head and put my phone down, grabbing my laptop to pester people, since that seemed to be the only thing I could do. I opened it up and typed in my password, opening the Pesterchum application. I scrolled to Roxy's name and started to type.

I rolled my eyes and closed the chat, returning to my music, drowning out the world. My phone started ringing and I perked up, looking down at it. Lacie was calling me for my daily check up...but at this moment I didn't want to talk.
I pressed the 'decline' button and sighed, feeling guilty. She may have been my best friend but she needed to move on. I returned back to my music and snuggled into my blanket, soon drifting off to sleep.
I needed sleep, but I didn't think I needed it this much. I fell asleep, with someone I didn't expect on my mind, certainly stuck in my mind.
[Okay I apologize for that. It made this chapter private, so I went back and copied it and published it a second time...Sigh]
