Sans begged you to play sick so you didn't have to patrol that day but you told him that would be suspicious. You knew Sans was over reacting but it's nice to know that he cares for you deeply. It took time for you to get comfortable over the fact that practically every monster in the Underground are trying to find a human that happens to be you. But then you remembered why Toriel let you leave the ruins in the first place because she knew you could fool all the other monster to thinking you weren't human. Toriel was right, you had fooled all of the monsters except two which were Gaster and Sans, but your worries of being caught had gone away.

Patrolling hours were extended to being three hours more than usual which meant no dinner time at home. The strict patrolling hours have been like this for a week and a half and that you must be more active most of the time instead of sitting around at your sentry stations.

Papyrus had thought ahead of not being able to cook dinner so he's been making you and him small dinners that you keep in containers and hide under the table of your sentry station. There have been cases when another royal guard found them and ate them both, lets just say Papyrus taught them a good enough lesson and that won't be happening again but he didn't dust them of course.

You and Papyrus were on your dinner break and went to your sentry station to eat. Papyrus has been finding meals that didn't involve heating up, he was in a hurry today though so he ended up just making rice and two thermos cups of warm coco. You both finished up eating and  went back continuing to scan the same area over and over that you both were assigned to. Papyrus was clearly getting tired of this and so were you.

"I CAN'T STAND THIS ANYMORE! WE'VE BEEN LOOKING AT THE SAME TREES ALL DAY, AND ALL OF MY TRAPS HAVE CAUGHT NOTHING! NOT EVEN A STUPID WANDERER THAT WASN'T PAYING ATTENTION TO THEIR SURROUNDINGS!"

He was right, you were tired of looking at the same scenery and his traps have caught nothing which you see as a miracle since they were so well hidden. Papyrus had hid bear traps underneath the snow and made trip wires that make you fall into some pretty deep pits that were well hidden as well. Papyrus once demonstrated one of his traps to you and what would happen if someone got caught by it―you were glad that all of his traps were disabled when you first came to Snowdin, otherwise you'd probably would've been caught on day one of leaving the ruins.

There were times while patrolling when you would end up at the giant purple gates that you once left through with Toriel's help. You do wonder if she thinks you're dead and even if you tried knocking on those gates, she would've never been able to hear it unless she was directly on the other side. Your thoughts were interrupted by Papyrus yelling something to you.

"ARIE! WATCH OUT FOR TH―"

There was a loud snapping noise as you look down to see your foot just millimeters away from the rusty claws of the bear trap as try to process what could've happened to your poor foot.

"ARIE, IS YOUR FOOT OKAY!? DID IT GET YOU!?" Papyrus says as he runs over to examine yourself.

He saw how close your foot was to being no longer attached to you as his face turned from shocked to horrified.

"I MUST'VE MADE THESE TRAPS A LITTLE TOO SENSITIVE." He says.

"A little?" I say.

"I CAN'T HAVE TRAPS THAT AREN'T SENSITIVE OR I WILL NEVER CATCH THIS HUMAN THAT HASN'T LEFT A TRACE OF THEMSELVES!" He says as he opens up the trap carefully while struggling to pull both sides away from each other.
