Dear Friend,

New Year's Eve was definitely a night to remember and not in a good way either. I think that night has left everyone in shock to say so the least. It was unexpected. A night that was supposed to be fun, lively and a getaway from reality turned into something which was the complete opposite.

After the police and ambulance had shown up, a lot of the people from the party were questioned about what had happened. Dinah, Normani, and Ally, stayed at the scene since they witnessed everything. I'd later come to find out that the person responsible for the multiple gunfire and Lucy being shot was the same guy who won homecoming king, Allen. Apparently, Allen had been taking drugs for a while now, but the mixture of it with alcohol and frustration made him snap. It was reported that Allen had gotten the gun from his father who is a hunter. The police said that the boy had no real motive other than he was angry and drunk.

That night, I'd accompanied Lauren along with the team of paramedics to take Lucy to the hospital. I instructed Ally to tell my grandmother what had happened and for her not to worry. On the other hand, Lauren was in a rush of emotions. We arrived at the hospital where Lucy was carried on a stretcher to the emergency room.

"Camila, it should've been me," Lauren cried, hyperventilating. "He was going to shoot me, but she- "

I cradled Lauren's head in my arms, trying to stop her from speaking so she could calm down. I've never seen Lauren like this. Between the two of us, she was usually the one to stayed grounded and kept ahold of her emotions, but this time, the roles were reversed. "Lauren, stop. Don't ever say that it should have been you." If Lauren were to be in Lucy's position right now, I don't know what I would have done.

The doctor had informed us that the bullet that was ingrained in Lucy's shoulder had been removed. But because she was sedated during the surgery, it would be a matter of time before she wakes up.

"Hey guys," Normani called out as she made her way through the glass doors of the hospital. "Aww Lauren, baby," the girl uttered as Lauren shot up to give her a hug, still sobbing and trembling from the events that had happened.

"Mani, I-I-I-," Lauren tried, but her words caught up in her throat making her unable to speak.

"It's okay Lauren, you don't have to say anything," Normani reassured her as she let Lauren off of her own hold. "Look, I got you a set of clothes you may want to change in," Normani instructed, inspecting Lauren's clothes which were drenched in blood. Lauren nodded her head, taking the set of clothes as she disappeared into the hallway to the direction of the restrooms.

"Mani, what happened?" I asked.

"Allen... He was about to shoot Lauren, but Lucy stood in front of her to try and reason with him. And then, he just shot her, like it was nothing." Normani answered in disbelief.

"Lauren blames herself," I informed Normani.

"I know. Lauren thinks that if Lucy hadn't interfered then she would've been the one to get shot." Normani continued, "But I don't think it's Lauren's fault. She didn't pull the trigger, Allen did."

"Hi ladies," the man greeted us who was in a police uniform. "We informed Lucy's parents about what happened and they should be here any time now. You guys are free to go home if you'd like. One of us can also take you home if you need a ride."

"No," Lauren disagreed firmly as she made her way back to where we were, now wearing the clothes Normani had given her. "I'm staying here until she wakes up." The police officer nodded his head in agreement, making his way out of the room.

"Lauren, you should get some rest. Her parents are coming and we can come back tomorrow," Normani interjected.

"I can't Mani. I want to be here when she wakes up." Lauren continued, "You guys don't have to stay with me. You can go home."
