Chapter Eighty-Two: The Final Stage, IMPRESS.
Part 1.
---
"I said leave me alone!" I defensively shouted back at my Aunt, marching up the castle stairs and down the corridor that led to my bedchamber.
"Natalya, dear, I wasn't putting the blame on you!" Aunt Roslin tried to make me make sense of her "suspicions" but I wasn't buying it, "I was merely making an observation!"
I fiercely whipped around and spitefully directed my squinted eyes at her, "are you sure? Because to me, it sure as hell felt like you were trying to accuse me of mass murder!"
Aunt Roslin anxiously pulled her bottom lip between her teeth, tearing her eyes away from mine and flickering them down to her clasped hands. "You really believe I did it, don't you?" I hurtfully questioned, feeling an indescribable sense of guilt and dread creeping into my emotions. "You think I killed my mother and father?" My voice broke. "And every other boy and girl who died in the fire..."
"It makes the most sense, Natalya, think about it..." Aunt Roslin calmly suggested but it still felt patronising in every way, "have you had any occurrences in the past where you've accidentally activated your abilities without meaning to?"
My breath hitched in my throat when that question left her mouth and I was suddenly overcome with dread.
Wait...
Aside from the time I accidentally turned Blake into a demon ice cube instead of becoming invisible, there was the time when Fredrick was killed by a sudden eruption of fire that blazed up from the realm's core.
I remember thinking it was Preston who had orchestrated it all because of the black flames, however, when Pres turned around and told me that it was all me, I was very shocked. I still don't know for sure whether he actually had any involvement in that at all or not, but I do recall those flames flaring in my control. I remember trying to put them out and freaking out when they simply got worse.
That's the first incident that comes to mind, but honestly, I think the only reason that the fire erupted that day was because of the deep hatred and torment buried inside of me which I felt towards Fredrick. He just had this horrendous effect on me that would flick off a switch and send me mad with rage.
I don't recall having intense feelings of anger or resentment towards anyone the night of the fire, which is why it is making it harder for me to believe I had anything to do with it. I may have gotten a little exasperated when my mother sent me to get water from the well twice, and I may have been a little annoyed when I bumped into Fredrick on the way there but other than that, I was perfectly fine.
