IMPRESS.
Chapter Sixty-Four: The Other Girls.
---
Once we made it to a random room that looked to be a very small and private study inside, Angelina closed and locked the door.
When the lock clicked I momentarily had to reassure myself that Preston's mother would not hurt me, and even if she did, her son had my back.
"So I take it he hasn't told you... Well, I'm not surprised, my son has very questionable intentions most of the time," Angelina muttered the last bit bitterly.
I arched my eyebrow, "what are you talking about, questionable intentions?"
"Let me ask you, Natalya, why do you love my son? Is he holding you against your will? Is he buying your love? Is he blackmailing you? You can tell me, I'm not your enemy," Angelina stared at me pitifully.
I shook my head furiously, offended that she'd throw such vile accusations about her son at me like that.
"-No! He would never, your son Preston he is ridiculously good to me, he treats me like an equal, he is sweet, kind and compassionate-" I was counting on my fingers, almost reaching the next number but, only to be cut off by Angelina a second later.
"Are we talking about my son here or someone else?" She questioned and I nodded certainly.
She shook her head with a spiteful smile at the subject of the conversation- her son, "yeah I'm pretty sure... why does it feel like you are trying to chase me away?"
Angelina immediately frowned, looking apologetic and placing her hand on my shoulder, "I don't mean to be bitter, honey. You can just do so much better than my son."
"What?" I asked, shocked at how low she spoke of her son, the King.
I didn't know whether she was trying to make me hate Preston or what... Well, after hearing how much she didn't favour her son very well from Preston himself, I didn't really know what to make of her own intentions.
"As you know, we demons survive on souls and heart blood," I hummed along and she carried on, "pure souls are at the bottom of our food chain since a soul that's pure has no worth to us demons until we consume it."
Okay noted but what about my supposed "dark soul," what did that mean... And why did all this soul stuff matter anyway?
"Demons, vampires, witches, werewolves etc. It's natural to have dark souls if you're born as one of them but a human... a human with a dark soul, in the Shadowlands that's a big thing, it means you have a lot of power, a lot of strength."
I uncomfortably crossed my arms when she mentioned power, surprised that demons were smart enough to determine if you were powerful by your soul?? Wow.
"Power?" I said unsurely and Angelina eyed me with suspicion at how nervous I had gotten.
"A dark soul has more worth inside of the body of its possessor, especially if the possessor has human blood," Angelina explained, "honey you give immediate strength to any demon you give your heart too," she worriedly frowned again.
I give more and more strength to Preston then, the more I fall for him?
Angelina continued, "even a vampire, witch, werewolf or stranger may feel stronger in your presence, I, myself feel more energy standing with you than I did five minutes ago."
The realisation of what Angelina was trying to imply struck me, "so you think your son is using me for power?"
It angered me that she'd jump to that assumption seeing as Preston had been nothing but genuine and real with me.
