IMPRESS.Chapter Seventy-Four: Like Father, Like Son.
Song of the chapter: Breathin by Ariana Grande
——
10 hours later...
Shaming me in front of my home region in front of all the people I had grown up with just wasn't enough for them, was it?
There was only so much I would take before I would flip the switch from innocent village girl to psycho bitch. These soldiers that King Creon had commanded to come and arrest Alaric and I had thought it would be a lovely idea to split me up from not only my brother but my fiance too. Preston and I had been shoved into separate rundown carriages back in Icilia, and I kid you not, the carriage was nothing but uncomfortable for the whole journey back to Aeralin.
Anger had been building up within me for ten hours straight and I could feel it clawing at my insides, but I wouldn't let it find it's way to the surface because I knew no matter how mad I was at my situation, I had to keep taking careful breaths in order not to lose my mind in front of everybody and completely expose my family's secret.
It just really irritated me that these stupid royal authorities had managed to drag Pres into my mess after falsely assuming that he was associated with my "crimes," or whatever else the King thought I was guilty of. The officers had been so focused on getting us cuffed up that they hadn't thought once to stop and question Preston for his name and status.
Wait... If the officers seriously had to ask King Preston who he was to know that he was a demon then they would simply confirm just how stupid and dumb I believe they are seeing as a two-year-old toddler could guess who Preston was by one glance at him...
The King doesn't have very smart officers.
"Get out, we're here."
I abruptly opened my eyes when I sensed the sunlight. Turning my head to the side I felt a strained pain in my neck and winced aloud. This had been the worst journey to the Aeralin that I had ever experienced, and that's saying a lot since during the first time I travelled to the castle I was harassed by some boy named Ralph at Ser Walter's inn.
As I stretched my neck out, I halted in my movement when I found a rude officer impatiently stood glaring at me from outside the carriage, holding the door open for me to exit the carriage.
I emotionlessly stared back at the officer, pissed off by the mere presence of him and slightly lifted my heavy legs up to his eye-level, before rattling the chains that had been wrapped around my ankles to prevent me from escaping this tragic and ragged wooden ride.
"Move," the officer hurried after unravelling the chains around my ankles.
I rolled my eyes and decided to take my sweet ass time to leave the carriage. This was before the officer noticed me purposely slow down, viciously grabbed my wrist and hauled me out of the carriage. Ouch. He clearly didn't have time for me to be playing games.
The officer left me flying towards the concrete ground where I grazed my elbow and winced once more. Furiously looking up I squinted at the cruel officer's back as he closed the carriage door. The urge I felt to blow him away was too strong.
I took another long calming breath.
It's fine. It's completely fine. I can power through this. However, I hope karma comes back and hits this man like a brick... Thinking about it, since the vampires are relying so much on Preston's army for the war, the Royals may not be very happy when they find out that these idiotic fools arrested him. The one person with the biggest army across the five kingdoms, who is willing to "help" them win against the witches.
