Not much Keiynan and Ash in this chapter. More about Ash and his family. Still interesting and generally important, but more of a summery of stuff learned in My Gay Teacher.

Ash-

My lips curled into a smile as his met mine.

Me and Keiynan have been in a good part of our relationship. Sarah was still constantly annoying Keiynan, but that didn't stop us.

I was once again in his office. There had been quite a few more "overtime"s since the first time. Everything seemed to be going perfectly for us.

We had managed to set out some ground rules.

1. We couldn't tell anybody.

2. No flirting in public or in class.

3. We had to go to each other if we had been caught.

These were the core rules of the relationship blossoming between us.

I still remember at the beginning of the year, when I hated this man that was currently holding me in his arms. I never thought anything like this would happen.

After some time just hanging out in Keiynan's arms, he speaks. "Let me make you dinner." He says, Australian accent booming with confidence.

I was surprised. "What?" I ask.

"Dinner." He answers with a smile. "You should come over to my place, and we can have dinner. Why not? I can't take you out anywhere."

I didn't respond, and Keiynan obviously thought that was a no. When apologizing for the question, I connect our lips. "I'd love to," I confirm.

In classes, we were assigned a family history project.

I didn't know much about my family, in full honesty. I wish I knew more, but with both of my parents gone...

I set to doing some research. The first thing I did was see what I already knew. I had a dad named James Miller, and a mom named Blaire Clarkson. I had a half-brother named Ajax "Jax" Miller, whose mother was named Robin Miller, maiden name King. I knew Jax committed suicide, but previously dated Colton, who is apparently his teacher.

That was all I knew as far as family history went.

I didn't know how to go about my research, though. Dad had died in a car crash when I was 12, Jax killed himself when I was 13, and Mom left when I was 12.

I felt a good place to start was to look up my mother's name.

Blaire Clarkson

The first thing that pulled up was a news article.

42 year old Blaire Clarkson shot and killed police officer Diego Jones in a drive-by.
Random Date

That was one week ago!

My mother was a... a criminal?

Slightly overwhelmed, but still curious, I search up my dad's name.

James Miller

There was nothing recent, of course. But, there was one article that stood out.

Officer James Miller fired from police force after being accused of rape by 16 year old Carly Smith.
Random Date

So not only was my mom a criminal, but so was my dad?!

The information was too overwhelming.

I pick up my phone, calling Colton.

Before giving him a time to greet me, I exclaim, "Colton, did you hear that my mom is a criminal?"

He was speechless.

I continued. "I've been doing some research for this report on my family history, and it's... something. My mom, one week ago, shot and killed a police officer! And my dad was a police officer, but was fired after supposedly raping this 16 year old girl!"

He stammered for a response. "Wait, wait. Your dad, he was a police officer?" He says.

I slowly nod my head, but he couldn't see. "Yes?"

"What year was he fired?"

"Um... 'random date'. Why?"

"Fuck," Colton said. "In 'random date', Jax would have been... 10. That was when your dad started beating him."

My breath stopped.

"And if he was a police officer, that might explain why..." Colton's voice broke as if he was crying. And based off of what he'd say next he probably was, "... why Jax had access to a gun."

I dropped my phone as the events of that night replayed in my head.

I was 13. I was at Andi's house. She had recently agreed to be my girlfriend. Colton called Andi's mom, saying he had terrible news. Jax had shot himself.

I remember my reaction to the news. I hadn't fallen to the ground, or broken into tears. Instead, I paced around the house, waving my finger and denying it. It was then that I was driven to the hospital and saw his dead body that I fell to my knees and broke into tears.

On the side of Jax's head, there was a bullet hole. A bullet. His way of killing himself.

I remember seeing a gun around the house when I was young, and I never questioned it. It did seem like a gun that a police officer might carry.

"Ash?" The faint voice of Colton calls from my phone on the ground.

I shake my head, snapping out of it. I pick the phone back up. "That's why." I tell him. Tears escape. "That is why. That is how."

I heard Colton take a deep breath. "I never even thought about it." He confesses.

I excuse myself from the conversation, and hang up. I turn back to my computer.

I went through dozens of articles on Blaire Clarkson, James Miller, and even Jax Miller.

I called Colton again. "Hey, Colton, do you know if Jax had any siblings?" He asks.

Colton hums, thinking. "Not that I can recall." I sigh. "Oh wait!" He says. "I do, actually. He had an older brother. His name was Dash, and he also committed suicide."

"Thanks. Gotta go." I hang up.

My family history was not a happy one. I couldn't find anything before my mom and dad, but there was enough drama there as it was.

Dad, a former police officer, was accused multiple times of rape, and sexual assault. In the end, he died in a car crash when I was 12.

Mom was a prostitute. In addition to that, she recently killed a cop and is now in prison for life. She left me with Dad when I was 12.

Jax suffered from anxiety and depression. He dated his teacher, and was in an abusive relationship with his ex Rhett, who committed suicide, and Zander who is now living a normal life. Jax killed himself when I was 13.

Dash, my half-brother that I didn't know about, was similar to Jax in the way that he also had depression. He killed himself before I was born.

That was what my life was filled with. That was my history.

As sad as it all was, I could only get one take away from it.

What if I ended up killing myself?
