Keiynan-
We had a beautiful Christmas dinner with Colton and Jeff.
It was clear Ash felt awkward around Jeff, especially since his visit to Jax's grave.
We soon flew back to Denver and the university, but it was fairly empty there. Most students and teachers were still enjoying their vacation, which made it more comfortable to be around Ash.
He and I were passionately connected at the lips back at my place, tongues roaming each other's mouths. I was on top of him on my couch, and he ran his hands through my now slightly longer than buzz cut hair.
A noise between a beep and a buzz cuts us off.
I groan as I pull my phone out of my pocket. "Do you have to take it?" Ash says while biting his lip, clearly trying to get my lips back on his. God, it was so tempting.
I look at the caller ID.
Cheating Ex
"Yeah, sorry." I tell him. "It's... work." This was anything but work. Though, it would be a lot of work to handle.
I walk into a different room, not wanting Ash to hear the conversation. "What do you want, Sarah?" I hiss to the other end.
"Kee, I have some big news!" She says, energy and something else flooding her voice. Almost... Triumph. "I know about your little affair!"
I gasp. My phone falls out of my hand, landing on my foot. "Fuck!" I yell from both the pain from the phone and the shock from her words.
"Are you okay?" Ash asks. His sweet voice was muffled by the shut door, but still audible.
I take a deep breath, struggling to compose myself. "Yeah, yeah. I'm fine." I answer. I pick the phone back up. "W-what do you mean?" I stutter, quieting my voice.
She laughs. "Oh, you know what I mean." Her voice managed to drop, but still be cheerful. The cheerful was an evil kind of cheerful, that sent shivers down my spine. As if she were a villain planning to kidnap all of your dogs. "I'm not sure how the University of Denver would feel about a professor having a more than professional relationship with his student. Should I call them and ask, or can you just guess?"
I gritted my teeth, hand clenched around my phone so tight I was sure it would pop. "What do you want, Sarah?" My voice dropped an octave, and was quieter to ensure Ash didn't hear that I was talking to Sarah. I never got this mad with anybody but her.
She sighed. "Oh, sweetie, how many times do I have to tell you? I want you!"
"And what if I don't accept?"
"3... 2... 1..." The door bell rings.
"I fucking swear..." I open the door, and there, to nobody's surprise, was Sarah. I hung up, shoving my phone back in to my pocket.
And, at the worst possible timing, a shout comes from the other room. "Keiynan? Who's at the door?" His voice was sweet, and it was clear that it wasn't a friend or somebody else my age. It was a voice I craved at any moment but now.
I curse under my breath as Sarah produces a smile. "Is the little twerp here now? Perfect time to do it."
"T-t-to do what?" I ask, clearly knowing what she wanted me to do.
Her smile widened to a full toothed grin. "Break up with him." Her voice once again managed to be menacing, yet sweet. Like the bratty girl from high school this time, rather than a puppy stealing villain.
I took a deep breath. "Again, what happens if I say no?"
"Geez, you really are an idiot sometimes, Kee. Let me ask you one thing. How much do you care about this boy? Enough to lose your job?" Her look was smug as a smirk tugged at her lips, which she didn't try to hide. She loved her matter plan.
I looked behind me at the closed door which Ash stood behind. I could almost imagine the pain and heartbreak in his eyes as I told him. But, he was a smart kid. He'd understand, right?
With another deep breath and tears brimming in my eyes, I walk over and open the door, Sarah right behind me. "Ash..." I say with a sigh.
His head bolts to me. "Keiynan, what's she doing here?" Ash questions, teeth clenched just as mine. But, at that moment, realization hit him. Sarah just found us, together, in my house. I could almost read his mind. Fuck.
Sarah smirked. "I could ask you the same thing!" Her voice was high pitched, making her sound almost happy and cheerful, though we all knew she was anything but.
"Um..." Ash stumbled for an answer.
I cut in. "Ash, she knows. It's okay."
"So, are we gonna do it now, or..." Sarah questions me, once again exposing a smirk on her pink lips as she flips her blonde hair. I would have punched her if Ash wouldn't have been a witness.
"Keiynan," Ash starts nervously and afraid, "what is she talking about?"
Another deep breath. A stab to my chest, and soon his. "Ash... we can't do this. We're over."
