"How are you tonight?" Rowan Gates asked with a wide, cunning grin.

"We are perfectly fine, sir," I spoke with my southern accent.

"Ah, the southern belle," Rowan grinned, sticking out his hand.  "Rowan Gates, at your service."

"So, you are the reason for this lovely evening," I shook hands with him, as Scott stood over my shoulder.

"Who might you be?" Rowan questioned with jealously in his obsidian eyes.

"This is my boyfriend, Jake Luke," I prayed that Scott would just go with it.

Scott smiled at him and clasped hands with him, "Nice to meet you."

"Strong gripe," Rowan observed as he yanked his hand free.

"Yea, I've been told that," Scott smiled smugly.

"Well, enjoy the evening.  I must see the rest of my guests," Rowan smiled and strode away.

My eyes bugged as I released my breath.  Scott snagged my clammy hand.  I smiled, and he grinned, blue eyes sparkling.

"See? Not so bad huh?" he held my hand as we walked around the room to blend in.

"Looking good down there," we glanced up at Victoria and Adrian.   A commotion to our left and Scott shoved me behind him.

"Talk to me," I ordered, looking at them on the balcony.

"One of the art pieces was tossed to the ground by a little boy, and now Gates is talking to him," Victoria sounded confused.

I blanched, "A little boy? Black hair, blue eyes?"

"Yea, how did you know that?" Victoria asked.

"Because that boy, is our brother," Adrian answered for me.  "Tamara, a woman just led him to your left and Gates is headed for you."

"What does the woman look like?" Scott and I asked together.

"Looks like a model," Adrian laughed when Victoria pinned him with a glare.

"She's young and tall, bleach-blonde hair, and hazel eyes," Victoria dished out a description.   Scott snatched my hand and yanked me onto the dance floor.  We slow danced with our bodies close.  I wrapped my arms around his neck and his arms circled my waist.

"Forget about the boy, Tamara.  You can't get him today without putting everyone in danger," Kira ordered coldly and distantly.

I rolled my eyes, thinking, "You really don't think I know that?"

"Sorry about yanking you out here, Rowan was heading in our direction, but I didn't feel like talking to him," he cleared his throat uncomfortably.

"That's okay, I don't really feel like facing him either," I sighed, my mind on Ethan.  He was so close.  I can't take him, remember the mission.  I have to stay focused.

"Okay, we have the files.  We are exiting now," Kira and Puck walked past us.  "Bianca and Duke are leaving in 10 minutes and you 5 minutes after," Kira left the ballroom.

"The woman with Ethan are passing to your left in 5, 4, 3, 2, now," Adrian counted down.  On now, Scott turned and pulled me with him after them.

"Scott, this is not a good idea," I slowed him down.

"Trust me," he lead me to them.  "Hi, I was wondering if I could just steal you away for a moment?" Scott addressed the blushing woman.

"We are outta here," Adrian smiled at me and I mouthed thank you.  He nodded and escorted Victoria out.
