Newt POV

Life before (y/n) came into the glade was not fun, at first I was a runner and it was interesting and I did enjoy it, then after so long you can only take so much and the hope of finding a way out became little and I was beginning to get fed up with the whole situation

I was always snappy or hiding away in my hammock, everyone had liked me so they were all upset about it and one day I just decided to give up.

I went out running, split myself from the rest of the group and tried jumping off one of the wall the kill myself.

But as I fell my foot got caught and I was knocked unconscious instead.

Apparently, Minho found me on the ground and panicked brought me to the med jacks and they sorted me out, just now I have a bloody limp.

I was looked after for a few months then once I was let free, Alby gave me second in command and I was told to work in the gardens.

After a month of that my life changed, it was greenie day and we were all expecting another boy that we had to teach how to do things and go over the same conversations about the situation here.

But no

We went over to the box, well everyone but me, and all I could hear was Zart shout "it's a girl!"

I looked up at this statement at first I was confused as the why a girl was sent up but that was soon replaced with curiosity and concern as she was rushed to the med jacks

I strolled over and saw she was unconscious and was bleeding on her head making some of her (y/h/c) hair red.

She was gorgeous though, she looked so relaxed and so peaceful her soft (y/h/c) hair was wavey and medium length

"Why is a girl here? It's been boys for years?!" Gally said ranting

Alby suggested we go back to work and ask questions when she wakes up so that's what we did

Later in the afternoon I went by to give Clint some fresh fruits like he asked me too but he weren't there so I left them on the side when the girl suddenly woke up gasping for air, so obviously I rushed to her side

"It's alright love calm down" I said kneeling next to the bed

Her bright (y/e/c) eyes looked at me and I was a bit shocked on how beautiful she was but pushed that to the back of my mind.

"Where am I?" She asked her voice tired

"We don't know, all we know is that we're in this glade trying to find a way out trust me everything that's going through your mind it's going through all ours" I said calmly

She relaxed a little bit "we?" She asked

"Yeah there's around fifty other boys your the first girl to come up in the box" I explained

"The only girl? Not sure whether that's a good thing or a bad thing" she said

"Can you remember your name?" I asked

She thought for a bit "(y/n)"

And that is when I changed after a few months she didn't really like many of the boys as all they wanted her for was well you know, so she stuck with me mainly as Minho was running all day and she worked in the gardens as well

We grew close and she put a smile back on my face as she was the sunshine of the glade and all the other boys saw how happier I had got but I didn't even realise that I had perked up that much.

As time went on another girl hadn't been sent up yet but all troubles began to happen when the new greenie Thomas came up soon followed by the next girl Teresa

(y/n) and Teresa had got close as they were the only two girls and me and Thomas became close as well but then when Thomas and Minho ran through the maze and saw a place they had never been troubles began to happen

The gates wouldn't close, grivers came and killed most of the gladers including Alby.

The next morning Gally had decided that it was all Thomas and Teresa's fault and they should be banished, me and (y/n) obviously disagreed with this and we all came up with a plan to escape

We made our escape, ran through the maze and fought grivers before we reached the way out.

I stuck with (y/n) the whole time just incase she got in trouble and I could help her

Some woman called Ava Paige spoke and then killed herself which was lovely and me and (y/n) looked at eachother confused

"What's going to happen now?" She asked

"I'm going to get you out of here" I said to her and she smiled slightly

"As long as you come with me" she replied then Gally walked around the corner holding I'm assuming Ava's gun

I pushed (y/n) behind me and glared at Gally

Thomas tried explaining how they were going to get out but Gally was having none of it

Just as he was about to shoot us all, Minho grabbed the spear I was holding and launched it into Gally but he had already shot a bullet

We all looked at eachother to work out who had been shot

"(y/n)" Chuck whispered as she was next to him

She looked down at him and saw there was red patch forming and she gasped "no Chuck" and he fell to the ground

Thomas quickly rushed to his side and Chuck gave him the wooden gift from his parents to him and told him to give it to his parents for him before he thanked (y/n) for all the fun times they had running around that glade and when he took his last breath (y/n) broke down

I hugged her then we were lead out by men. To our freedom. Or that was what we thought anyway.
