Your POV

La Belle, a calm town mostly filled with women but with the most horrendous rule.

A few years back a mine collapsed killing around 90% of the town's men, leaving behind their wives and children. The town went into a complete depression and the once happy town was filled with grieving families. Not fun at all.

Since there was no guarantee that it wouldn't happen again, Mary set one rule for the town.

No relationships

Woman weren't allowed to marry, love or even build close bonds with men so prevent any further heartbreak for the town.

I know what your thinking, what happens when we all die? Who will carry on the town's population? Answer is, we don't know but Mary wasn't going to budge.

If that rule was broken, we would be banished from the town and if we were to come back, we'd be killed.

This however was a slight problem for me as I was in a very secret relationship with the town's deputy, Whitey Winn. Unintentional of course but you can't help falling in love.

We had our spot outside town that was hidden and not many people knew of and that's where we would spend some time together.

The only person that knew about our relationship was the Sheriff as he sussed us out ages ago but he was happy and understanding about it and kept it a secret for us.

We had been together for about a year now and I still remember the day he told me the one way to smile when he isn't there.

We have a little thing that every night when a shooting star flies across the sky he told me to think of it as a little present from him and when I'm looking up at the night sky to wait for the shooting star, it flies across and instantly puts a smile on my face.

He promised me that one day we'll leave the town and start somewhere new together, where we could be together and not have to look over our shoulder all the time and keep in secret.

I was currently sat with my dog in my home watching the tv when there was a knock on the door

I got up and opened it to see Sheriff I glanced over his shoulder to see Mary nearby watching the rebuild of a church

"(y/n) can you come with me?" He asked

"Sure" I said closing the door behind me

"It's about Whi-" he started

"Sheriff! Are you busy?" Mary asked spotting us

"I'll be free in about 5 minutes why?" He replied

"Well you said you wanted to help out with the decking" she said

"Oh yes of course well let me take (y/n) to the station and I'll ask Whitey to deal with her" he said

"What's she done?" She asked looking at me

"Nothing it's about her father" he said

She gave me a sympathetic look and nodded "very well, I'll make a start on the decking and you join when you're ready" she said and walked off

He breathed a sigh of relief and looked at me
"Anyway as I was saying it's about Whitey, he's been so down because he hasn't seen you in over a week so if you two talk in the station and I'll keep Mary busy but make sure you close the blinds"
