Newt POV

So here we were, we survived, the maze, the scorch all done but now we had one last mission, kill Ava Paige and end all this, but our plans had been put on pause as we got news.

Not everyone is immune from The Flare. Me included.

I don't know how or why but I wasn't immune, it wouldn't have bothered me that much but the look on (y/n)'s face when she found out broke me.

Everyone was upset about it all but what could we do, there was no known cure so we would just have to suck it up.

(y/n) had been more quiet since, her (y/h/c) hair all messed up and her what were once happy (y/e/c) eyes now looked sad.

Me and (y/n) had been through hell but we got through it together, when she first came into the glade she was the 10th person and I felt like I knew her already but couldn't remember, she thought the same thing as well, we ended up getting closer and I felt like I had known her forever

When we escaped we stuck by eachother's side and battled the scorch and cranks and eventually we got together as I had never felt more protective over anyone.

Now she was going to watch me slowly go insane and forget her, all the memories were going to be gone, all because of this bloody diesease.

Currently we were all trying to find a way forward, Thomas was stressed, and due to him being stressed the rest of us were stressed, (y/n) however was no where to be seen. I looked around for her but she wasn't anywhere

I turned to Brenda who was looking worried at the rest of the group
"Where's (y/n)?" I asked her

"She went outside for a breather" she replied

"Alright thanks" I said with a small smile and went out

She was stood outside overlooking the view of the last city, he hair blowing slightly in the wind

I went over to her and she looked at me and smiled
"Why are you out here" she asked

"Looking for you" I replied and she looked away

"Cheer up love, if I'm going to go insane I want my last moments with you to be happy" I said

"What's the difference? Your not going to remember me anyway" she said sadly

"I know but you will, I want you to be happy, carry on with life"I said

"There's no point in a life for me if your not in it" she replied

I sighed "you can't think like that"

"Oh I can and I have, if they don't find a cure then there's literally no point in me being here. You're the reason I smile you're the reason I get up everyday you're the reason I'm not giving up hope of freedom" she ranted looking at me

I hugged her "it will all work out, but I guess we'll be together either way"

"I hope so" she said quietly

Thomas POV

I looked out at Newt and (y/n) hugging and it broke my heart

"She's not going to cope without him" Fry said

Brenda sighed "no she's not going to be here without him"

I snapped around to look at her "what?"

"She said to me the other night that if he dies she may as well go with him" Brenda said

And Fry sighed, I looked back at them, I thought she might say something like that, she lost her bestfriend as she left us for WCKD even though Teresa had betrayed us (y/n) still missed her and you could see it. Now she was going to lose her boyfriend, the one person that has got her through

"Then we need to find a cure" I said

"And how do you suggest we do that?" Fry said

"Teresa." I replied

Brenda raised her eyebrows and Fry choked

"Are you mad?! She betrayed us!!" Fry said

Jorge looked at me and grinned "not mad, smart" he said

"How?" Brenda asked

"Look (y/n) and Teresa were bestfriends in the glade and the scorch, she doesn't know that Newt is going to die, and we're probably going to bump into her when we invade, if we tell her that her bestfriend is threatening to kill herself if Newt dies then she's going to want to help get a cure in time." I explained

"And while she's doing that we can save Minho and kill Ava" Fry said happily

"What if Teresa already knows?" Brenda asked

"She won't, they know if she finds out she'll want to come and find us" Fry said

"And if she refuses to help?" Brenda asked

"She won't, (y/n) was always there for her" I said

"Then let's do this thing!!" Brenda said and Fry high fived me

Ava POV

"Why didn't you let him die?" Janson asked me

"What do you mean?" I asked him

"Newt, why didn't you let him die when he jumped off the wall?" He asked

"Because he's our only hope" I replied

"How?" He asked

"Thomas can't afford another loss and he will lose two if he does die" I said

"You mean that (y/n) girl?" He asked "his girlfriend before the maze"

I nodded "and after the maze, but my point is they are going to try and find a cure to save him" I said

"Ah I get what you mean now" Janson said
