On December 16, Calum asked Alexza for her hand in marriage. It was the eight year anniversary since they first conversed over a pizza. Although he was only 18, he couldn't wait any longer. He knew she was the one, he was for sure this time.
After asking her father for permission in eloping with his precious daughter and being accepted into Alexza's family, Calum devised a plan.
Just like his proposal to Angelica, he wanted this one to be special and thoughtful. Cal and Angelica had their first date at the Chinese restaurant, so he felt it was fitting to pop the question there. But he needed something as special as that to use with Alexza.
After spending ages planning out the perfect proposal, he finally sprang into action, with the help of his best mates.
"Luke, Ashton, come help me!" Michael called into the next room. He was aiding Calum in finding the best outfit from his closet that they could without giving away detail straight away when Alexza was to walk in the door.
Luke trudged in followed by Ashton as they found their way to the large closet filled with band tees and skinnies. They decided on a light green collared shirt with yellow stripes, "Green and yellow make people happy, and I want her to be the happiest girl alive." Pairing that with dark skinny jeans, he fixed his hair in place before Luke handed him some flowers, "She'll like them, mate. Don't sweat it."
As the doorbell rang, Calum made last minute adjustments to his collar as the other three boys scrambled to the back door. As they were rushing out, Ashton said, "Good luck bro, she loves you."
He nodded his head as he quickly walked to the front door and opening it to reveal a cheeky Alexza standing before him. He smiled widely before inviting her in, "You're so beautiful, Lexi."
She blushed and looked down at the ground, as always; so self-conscious. Her outfit fit her personality, classic and light.
He grabbed her hand and pulled her close, their lips crashing together in a blissful kiss. They parted and he took her tiny hand in his once again, leading her to a table in the hall, where there was a piece of cloth and placed it atop her eyes, "Calum!" She laughed, "What are you doing?"
He bent down as his lips hovered next to her ear, "It's a secret, Darling," Calum whispered as he guided her out the door and to the car.
They drove for a few minutes, his arm outstretched, hand on her thigh the whole time. As they arrived to the old pizza parlor, he looked at her wearing the blindfold, unaware of what was about to happen. Hopping out of the car, he jogged to her side and opened the door, their hands meeting as he helped her out of the car.
He guided her to stand in front of the building before saying, "Ready, Princess?" She nodded as Calum took her inside the building.
We traveled into the now abandoned room and I removed her blindfold. She gasped, and I couldn't help but smile, "Where are we?" She said. My smile faded a little as I realized that I was either terrible at planning things, or she didn't remember the place that turned my life around. The pizza place we met each other, the exact room we had been brought together by fate only eight years prior. The exact booth we shared a pizza in.
I rushed over to the wall and flipped on a series of lights throughout the room. She grinned as she made her way to the stage. It was dark and covered in cobwebs. She wandered round the outskirts of the stage, before climbing the steps. I hurried to the lights again and managed to find the switch to the stage lights. She smiled to me, looking up at her with pure adoration in my glare. There was no longer a microphone, but she still stood right where it would have been. I stood in front of her, watching with a huge smirk on my face. She was beautiful, and she belonged on stages.
I grabbed her hand, aided her down the steps and to the booth. Our eyes locked as I sat across from her in the very booth that brought us together. There was a rustle in the back room, and she jumped, "It's okay babe."
Suddenly, Ashton came out wearing a half apron and carrying a pizza with her favorite toppings; the Hawaiian special. She laughed as he winked at her and sat the pizza before us as he rushed out, "After you, my love," I said as she grabbed a slice.
"How did you get permission to be here?" She asked.
"Let's just say your fiancé knows people."
She noticed how I worded that, adding fiancé into the sentence, "Cal," she breathed before I stood from the booth. Luke and Michael ducked in, Luke grabbing Alexza's hand and pulling her up to stand, as Michael handed me my only acoustic guitar.
Her hand traveled to her mouth once more. The boys disappeared into the back room again, leaving us two alone. Without saying a word, I started strumming. She immediately recognized the tune and tears started to form- Babe by Styx. The same one she sang at karaoke.
"You know it's you Babe,
Whenever I get weary and I've had enough
Feel like giving up
You know it's you Babe
Giving me the courage and the strength I need
Please believe that it's true
Babe, I love you."
I spoke the last line, "Babe, I love you. And I want to wake up next to you every single morning, feel your lips on mine every night. I want to come home to you, I want to be with you. I don't even remember life before you, baby. I want you and only you. You're the one for me. Alexza, please, will you marry me?" I finally knelt to the ground.
By then she was in tears, sobbing into her hands. She nodded and attempted to breath out a "yes" before I lifted her off her feet and into my arms.
Words were not exchanged for the majority of the time we sat in the old booth by the stage. We didn't need words to have a conversation; her eyes could write novels.
I'm so grateful to have Alexza. Unlike most people in my life since Angelica's death, she didn't think I was crazy. She didn't see me as a hazard to my own or her life. She loved me, and she said yes. She fucking said yes. I'm getting married to my best friend and most importantly, the love of my life.
She's perfect.
