AN: This is the same type of soulmate AU, meaning that it still the writing on skin one, but this is Jeffmads.

Thomas was heading for his daily coffee at the place down the street. He had bought the small shop as an early college investment, and it was running smoothly, just as planned. He was getting steady cash flow from the place, and that helped close whatever gap he had in bills.

They were getting a new employee that his assistant manager had hired, and since he was working the morning shift on his first day, Thomas would get to meet him.

Privately, he hoped the new employee was cute, but he'd never admit it.

And cute he was. Thomas walked in and immediately saw the smiling man running the counter. He hid his surprise and walked up to him, vaguely recalling that his name was James.

"Black coffee, please,"

"Yes, sir. Can I get a name?"

His voice was like honey. Thomas swooned. "Thomas Jefferson,"

"Oh, so you're the owner? Nice to meet you, sir,"

Thomas extended a hand and James took it, but before he could withdraw Thomas stopped him. "Um, James, what's that on your arm?"

James blushed a little. "Soulmate's writing,"

Thomas dropped his hand and rolled up his own sleeve to reveal a similar set of notes, one that matched James' letter for letter. "You must be...."

James' eyes widened. "Oh, I suppose so,"

Thomas came around the side of the counter and pulled James into a hug. They stood like that, in awe of their situation, before Thomas pulled away and said, "How about I meet you after work, and then I'll take you to the park or something?"

James nodded excitedly.

Time Skip brought to you by blue hair•

Thomas waited outside the coffee shop, watching anxiously through the window as James made his way towards the door. Every moment seemed agonizingly slow, and he wished so much for James to be in his arms. He hardly knew the man, but he had such a kind aura that Thomas couldn't resist him.

James walked out and immediately spotted Thomas. "Hey," he said shyly.

Thomas approached him and took his hand. "Hi, James. Are you ready to go?"

James nodded and they piled into Thomas's pretty black car. "Hey Thomas, why'd you buy a coffee shop? You're only, like, 19."

Thomas chuckled. "It's a good investment. I've almost made enough already to pay for my tuition fees. It'll come in handy if you ever move in with me, then I can support you too,"

James turned pink.

Thomas grinned apologetically. "Too fast?"

"No, I suppose not. You're my soulmate: I'm basically destined to spend the rest of my life with you."

Thomas's eyes softened in sympathy. "You don't have to. I'm just taking you on a date right now — it's not marriage. No commitment necessary,"

James nodded thankfully and they spent the remainder of the car ride in comfortable silence.

When they arrived at the park, the sky was getting a little darker, and James pressed closer to Thomas to keep warm. Thomas threw an arm around his shoulders and they walked towards the pond in the center of a clearing when Thomas stopped abruptly. His eyes lit up, and James smiled to see his joy.

"Jemmy, look, it's koi fish!" He whisper yelled.

James quirked an eyebrow. Jemmy? He looked down at the fish swimming slowly around. "They're almost as cute as you,"

AN: James you smooth criminal

Thomas laughed and crouched by the fish. "Right back at you, Jemmy,"

James smiled. Maybe he liked that nickname just fine.

They spent another hour talking and watching the fish, until Thomas drove James to his apartment and departed for his own dorm. He felt oddly warm and comfortable, as if he could just lay down and sleep forever, and he figured that was love. Thomas could only hope James felt it too.

The next day, James bought a diamond ring with all of his savings, put it in a drawer, and left a note that said "wait a few years."

AN: Extra Short. Comment if you think these should really be longer and I'll try my best. Jeffmads requested by AKfreakin47 . Love y'all
