(Sophie's POV)
When it was time to go to the dance, she was all ready in her beautiful light blue dress. Edaline had insisted on a light amount of makeup. Sophie looked in the mirror (Vertina), and decided she was almost unrecognizable. The bottom of her hair was lightly curled into small waves, while Edaline had used makeup in all the right places as to capture her true look, but...better. She heard a knock on the door and ran down to greet Fitz. "Wow! You look amazing!" he breathed. I could feel my self blush, but managed to keep myself composed. "Thanks!" I simply said. "You don't look to bad yourself!" It was true. His elegant white tux seemed to go perfectly with his teal eyes.
"Be back on time!" Grady called after us. "And have fun!" I heard Edaline add. Soon we were standing in front of Foxfire. I was stunned. "Wow! it looks so, majestic!" Foxfire had been heavily decorated for the occasion. Luminescent crystals hung from the walls, little bright colorful bugs were flying around the building. They reminded me of fireflies. Fitz chuckled. "Elves tend to take their celebrations/parties seriously. We don't have many holidays. So dances and such are unusual." he explained. "oh" I subconsciously said, still captivated by the school.
Inside was even better that out. Colorful, but sophisticated looking, banners hung on the walls, many different bright glowing, pastel colored lights lined the hallways, and what appeared to be sparkley streamers, hung from the ceiling. Food was laid out on tables with silk table cloth. "You want to dance?" Fitz asked me. "Yes!" I answered immediately, but my heart didn't flutter like it usually did. He took my hand and we headed out onto the dance floor, which earned me several glares from some girls.
I had a great time with Fitz. He was quite the dancer. I on the other hand, was not. I kept tripping and stumbling. Fitz found this amusing, while I frustratedly tried to have beat. We eventually got tired, and headed over to the food table. While I was in the middle of a chocolate cherry Custardburst, Fitz's imparter rang. Alden's face flashed on. "Fitz, I need you to come home now. It's a little urgent. Oh, hi Sophie! Sorry, I need to borrow Fitz." Then he clicked away. "Sorry Soph." Fitz apologized. "Its fine Fitz." I said reassuringly, hiding my disappointment. Then he left.
After Fitz left, I decided to walk around the school to admire all of the elven decorations. They were more colorful and magical than human decor. While I had been observing the decorations, I had wandered into the hallway when I had first met Keefe. Not that I noticed. The hallway mostly held The Universe classes, so they had made the ceiling galaxy like.
As I was admiring the way they had made the stars move, none other than Keefe Sencen was walking down the hallway, coming towards me. He stopped to open his mouth, like he wanted to say something, but closed it again before continuing his path. "So what? Your just going to ignore me now?" I shouted after him. The hallway was pretty empty, so I didn't draw too much attention. I knew I shouldn't be so annoyed, or had even talked at all, after all, it was his choice to go with Biana. However, he just pretended to that I wasn't there at all. He loved to tease me all the time.
"Keefe Sencen, talk to me!" My voice shaking with a surprising amount of anger. He turned around to look at me. I had just realized that his eyes held surprising sadness, and heartbreaking annoyance. "If you wanted to go with Fitz, then you could have just said no." he told me, barley a whisper, but I heard it. "What does this have to do with Fitz?" I asked. "You know not to pity me Foster. " he said, completely ignoring my other question. "And I didn't" I quickly defended. "I did want to go with you!" "You didn't say yes to me because you wanted to go with Fitz!" he whisper-yelled. It was uncomfortably silent. The hall was cleared of prodigies now. Sophie was glad. This conversation was a little private.
"Well I didn't kiss Fitz after I asked someone else to the dance!" I seethed. His face fell. "You saw that?" "Of course I saw it! Not that it matters anymore." I grumbled. That hit him hard. "Foster-" "No! Don't Foster me! Your such a player!" I don't know why I just explouded on him, but it pushed him over the edge. "At least I'm not a freak like you." He said. He gasped, instantly regretting his words. Tears welled up in my eyes. "FINE!" I yelled and ran off.
(3rd Person)
Keefe tried to say something, but it was already too late. Sophie was already on the run, tuning out all her surroundings. Sophie was glad that she didn't wear heels. She probably would've tripped a hundred times by now. She didn't know where she was going, but she wanted to put as much distance between her, and the rest of the elven population. She ran and ran until her feet throbbed. She fell by a sparkling blue lake to catch her breathe. All the memories she was trying to forget came rushing back to her. The Girl Who Was Taken, Brown eyes, experiment, Black Swan's puppet, Freak... She had caused the death of many, and pain for many more. She was different. She wasn't even suppose to exist. The world would be better without her. Then her mind shattered. Leaving her to fall into cold, black, darkness...
