(Keefe's POV)
2 weeks have passed, and Sophie is still broken. Elwin says that her mind seems broken, but she doesn't have any of the symptoms. Everyone's been in a frenzy. Sandor is too angry at himself to look at Sophie, Grady and Edaline once again cut them self's off from everyone, and the Vackers were stressed, trying to figure out how to help Sophie. Even though nobody would admit it, (besides Fitz) he knew they all thought it was his fault.
I ditched The Universe again to go see Sophie. The hallways empty, so I could fast walk my way down. I held back tears as I walked pass the place I first met Foster. She had just destroyed Lady Galvin's cape, and had to make her way to Elwin, since she had burned herself.
I peeked my head through Elwin's office door. "knock Knock." I said, trying to lighten the mood. "Come in Keefe." Elwin sighed, opening the door the rest of the way to let me in. Sophie was sleeping, but tears streamed down her face. Fitz was kneeling next to her, his fingers on her temples.
I thought it was completely unfair. Fitz had gotten excused from many of his classes to "help" Sophie. he claimed he made progress everyday, getting deeper into her mind, but I knew better. Foster's mind was made to be impenetrable. Fitz might have been able to get in while she was sane, but her mind was broken. Neither subconscious ness, nor consciousness were able to think.
Fitz suddenly gasped, sweat coming off his face. "Her mind is a lot more complicated then I remembered." He informed Elwin, ignoring me. I snickered. "You think?" I commented. His eyes flared with anger. "Shouldn't you be in class?" Fitz asked ever so smugly, moving right in front of me. "You know I don't go to The Universe Fitzy poo." I could almost see the steam coming from his ears. "Besides, I might be able to help Sophie." I said quietly. His face lit up a little with hope. "Fine" he finally said, moving to let me through.
I had been learning to make others feel what I felt in empathy a few days ago, and I thought it was a little like inflicting, but I had to touch the person. I never had any use for it until now. I had even read entire books on telepathy to possibly converse with Sophie. My telepathy wasn't very good, but I knew it would be enough to lure her out of her mind.
"okay." I whispered to myself. As soon as I touched her temples, a wave of depressing emotions washed over me. I shivered, pushing past them. "Foster?" I asked into the darkness. Suddenly, a bright light shone in the back of her mind. I jumped over all of Foster's defences surprisingly easily. Once I made it to the back of her mind, I was completely drained. Not being a real telepath, it took all of my energy to do it. I started thinking of all of my greatest accomplishments and best memories, giving them to Sophie. "Foster?" I called again. "Yes Keefe?" Someone said next to me. I opened my eyes to see Sophie sitting up, smiling at me. "Thank you Keefe." She whispered in my ear. "Good to know you car about me Sencen." She teased out loud. We all laughed. Fitz ran over and gave her a tight squeeze. Then he whispered something to her, which caused her to blush. I felt myself clench my jaw. Fitz and I still had a small competion...
