Angelica finished her video conference with Rafe and Albee just as Charlie walked into the living room sipping a very large and very hot mug of coffee. "Good morning," she said, smiling as she looked at her watch, "or would that be afternoon?" Charlie shook his head, "I must have been more tired than I thought." She replied, "You've earned it, you have been working non-stop for a week and a half, with a green team and no back up, Charlie, thank you for everything you do even if I forget to say that on occasion." Charlie blushed slightly, embarrassed by the accolade for simply doing his job.
He changed the subject quickly, "Were you talking with the boys? How are things at what has fast become the busiest house in Virginia?" Angelica told him it was fine for now, but she wanted to speak with Rafe and Albee about Henrik Finn and certain occupants of that very crowded house. He raised an eyebrow and Angelica told him that Elijah and the Mikaelson family were not exactly friends with Bonnie Bennett and, as he already knew, Davina Claire. And now two very powerful witches who have reason to despise Elijah are in proximity to Elijah's son. "You don't think they would ...?" Charlie paused. Angelica replied, "I don't believe they would do anything overtly harmful to him but I cannot risk the two of them getting too close to my son. They could try to create a schism or dissension by poisoning his mind or try to lure him away with magic. He is too young to engage in channeling but he is very powerful and I don't want them using his power either. I am just not comfortable with the current circumstances."
Charlie took her hand and told her that Rafe and Albee would take care of it. She told him that Henrik Finn had been very reserved since yesterday's events, adding, "He knows his grounding has expired but he is secluding himself in his room reading and studying. That is not good for Henrik Finn but if it keeps him safe it is acceptable for now. He won't even video chat with Joey and Boswell. He is afraid that whomever attacked the house will find out about his friends and he doesn't want to put them in danger. We need to finish this and bring him home to us."
Charlie nodded, "I could not agree with you more. But don't worry too much. That little man of yours is quite resilient." She nodded then added as tears welled up in her eyes and her voice began to crack, "I know, but my five-year-old son is worried that his friends may be hurt for simply being his friend. No child his age no matter the talents should be worried about such things. I wanted to protect him from all of this and I've failed." She couldn't hold back the tears as they ran down her cheeks. Charlie held both of her hands until she had regained her composure. He knew there were no words that would make the situation any better.
She soon wiped the tears from her cheeks and apologized to Charlie. He told her not to worry as he understood how difficult the whole situation had been from the very start. But he assured her she was doing the right thing for Henrik Finn. She nodded her head then Charlie broached another subject. He asked her about bringing a team of Dragonetti vampires to Salem and sending a second team to Mystic Falls. They discussed how to deploy them if they did. "I'll make it happen," he said, as he left the living room, sipping coffee from that oversized mug.
Elijah passed Charlie in the hallway and the two vampires nodded at each other before continuing on their respective paths. Charlie shot him a look that clued Elijah in on what had just happened although one look at Angelica's face and Elijah knew that she had been crying. "My darling, what is it?" he asked, as he caressed her shoulders then embraced her. Angelica took a breath to keep her emotions in check then updated him on her various conversations. He kissed her on the side of her head, saying, "Niklaus, Rebekah and Kol will make sure that no one tampers with our Henrik Finn. Alaric, too, because if he should allow anything to happen to our son he knows that there will be no stopping me from tearing him limb from limb." He grinned then kissed her again, causing Angelica to smile slightly at what she knew to be Elijah making a half-joking/half-threatening signature comment. She could never be certain which it was with Elijah.
