Elijah Mikaelson & The Dragon's Quest

Chapter 5

Elijah and Niklaus accomplished the two-hour drive between New Haven and Boston in ninety minutes flat. It was just before sunrise as they met with Kol near the street where Davina and Megan were last seen. Kol told them he had searched every inch of that street but did not find a clue as to where the car had gone. The three brothers decided it was best to search again now that they had fresh eyes. Elijah removed a tablet out of his satchel and pulled up the video that Charlie had found to pinpoint exactly where the vehicle was last seen. The tablet contained a photo of Megan as well.

Elijah texted Angelica that they had arrived and that they were about to begin searching the street. Angelica acknowledged and added, "We've got eyes on. Be Careful." Elijah looked in the direction of the traffic camera and smiled at Angelica, who he now realized was watching them on the traffic camera feed that Charlie hacked. Niklaus saw the text and commented, "Your Charlie is quite the asset with all his gadgets and technical wizardry." Elijah nodded, and the three brothers began a slow, methodical search of the street starting at the intersection where the women were last seen on camera. They listened with their sharp vampire hearing, they watched with their keen vampire eyes, and the air was checked for scent but as the three reached the next intersection they did not find a clue as to where the car had gone.

Kol was upset but Niklaus suggested they walk it again from the reverse direction. The three set off again but this time when they reached midblock, Elijah paused and turned toward a solid wall covered in graffiti. He looked to the traffic camera then back at the wall. Within moments Niklaus was by his side. "Did you find something, Brother?" he asked. Elijah looked at the wall again and then down to the sidewalk. Elijah commented, "It is odd that this part of the sidewalk is more like a driveway. But why would there be a driveway to a solid wall?" Elijah pulled his smart phone out of his pocket and dialed. Angelica answered, "Elijah, I've got you on speakerphone with Charlie, what do you see?" He told her his observation about the wall and the driveway to nowhere. Kol joined them and both he and Niklaus pressed their hands against the brick wall while Elijah spoke to Angelica and Charlie.

Charlie accessed satellite footage of that street as well as checked the internet mapping site that would provide a streel-level view that would likely be a couple of years old. Within minutes, images were sent to Elijah's tablet showing that the building's solid brick wall was not a brick wall in the prior street view; it was an arched entry into the auto body shop that used to be housed inside that building. Kol stepped back from the wall and focused on the graffiti, where he began to see familiar symbols that had been camouflaged under the urban art.

But Elijah was way ahead of him. He had already taken photos of the graffiti and sent them to both Charlie and Freya with the question of whether it was a spell cloaking the entrance or whether it was an actual wall. Charlie's text back moments later had part of the answer; he obtained footage from a different camera angle that confirmed it was an arched vehicle entrance less than one week ago. He was still checking more cameras when Freya texted that the graffiti was obscuring mystical symbols consistent with a cloaking spell.

Kol pounded on the wall again but it would not give, not even under his vampire strength that should have been able to put a hole in that wall, brick or not. Niklaus commented that the mortar and bricks looked aged so it was impossible that this was built recently. Niklaus then looked up and said, "Well, if we can't go through the wall, then we go over it." With a smirk, Niklaus launched himself into the air and landed on the roof. He disappeared out of view then reappeared several moments later. He leaned over the edge and motioned for Elijah and Kol to join him. They scaled the wall and the three brothers stood on the roof. The building had a skylight and air vents. Kol easily ripped the air vent off and they were able to see down into the abandoned body shop. They jumped down through the opening and stood in the darkness. As their eyes focused, they saw Megan's missing car in the middle of the garage.
