[high school AU, minor angst, funny, fluff]

Naruto gave Sasuke a quick run-down once he finally caught up to the Uchiha outside the school.

"Come on, dude. You gotta pull yourself together..."

"How can I?!" Sasuke clenched his teeth, "I never knew Sakura felt this way! I only knew she was in love with you, and--"

"Oh, she is? I mean, either you're the idiot or I am for seeing differently... From what I've seen, I always thought she was in love with you."

"But... Why didn't she say anything?!"

"You clearly know nothing about love..." Naruto set his hands on Sasuke's shoulders, "hey, the fireworks show. I'll get Ino to go with some friends, maybe Tenten or Temari or someone... You're going with Sakura."

"There's no way she's going to go with me. Not after what happened, at least." Sasuke groaned and scratched the back of his neck, "hell, I don't even know where she is right now."

"I'll talk to her..." Naruto crossed his arms and shook his head pitifully, "man..."

"Look, I'm sorry, okay?"

"I'm not the one you should be apologizing to."

Sasuke clenched his teeth, left the campus, and walked down the sidewalk. It started so differently. I never thought I'd ever meet someone as... Unique as her. She and I have more in common than I thought, even though I can control my anger better than her and she's far stronger than me. I thought I was helping her. But as she was helping me and watching me with the one I love, I was only hurting her. I'm such an idiot...

He started towards her house until he heard muffled shouts from behind a building followed by the rattling of a metal fence further beyond the building.

"Shut up..."

"Let go of me!!"

"Don't yell! Someone's gonna--"

"Sakura!" Sasuke ran around the corner and grabbed the man that held her against the fence, "Sakura, get out of here!"

"You get out of here, Sasuke! I've got this under control!"

"Will you shove that pride up your ass and get away?! I'm trying to help you!"

Sakura froze as she watched Sasuke throw the man against the fence and hold his neck tight.

"What were you even doing out here?"

"I... I was on my home, then this guy--"

"This is why I always walked you home, Sakura." Sasuke looked at her as he held the man steady, "now get out of---"

"Damn it, Sasuke!" She walked up to the two and threw her fist against the chains, "get out of here..."

"What?"

The man pried Sasuke's hands from his neck, "geez, you've got a tight grip..." He sent a curt nod in Sakura's direction and casually walked off.

"What the hell was that?!"

"Heh." Sakura crossed her arms and smirked, "you should know better that I don't need saving."

That's right... I mean... She's stronger than me, but... "Why should it even matter if you can save yourself or not?!"

"This test just proves you're even more stupid than I thought."

"Why you... It's the thought that counts!"

"But." Sakura walked up to him and grabbed his shirt collar, "also shows how stupid you are to want to protect someone like me."

"W-well of course!"
