Chapter Two

I walked out into the bright sunlight, taking my first look at California. It was like England except for the fact that the cars were on the other side of the road and I was so hot already! I was only wearing a t-shirt and shorts. My mind was racing because it was all a bit over whelming. My first priority was to get to the motel I would be staying at. I pulled the slip of paper; I'd printed off out of my bag and tried to hail a cab. I stood there for at least 20 minutes but finally one pulled up in front of me.

"Where to miss?" asked the cabby

"Um... the Anderson motel" I replied nervously. I had no idea where the motel was and I might think the driver is a nice man but he could take me anywhere.

"Alright get in." I climbed into the cab and found that it looked like the inside of an English taxi, not that I'd had much experience of being in one. As whenever I needed a lift I just called either Danny or Jace and they would come and pick me up. I sat awkwardly in silence as we drove away from the airport and onto main road. Suddenly he said" You new in town?" I was so surprised that I answered without thinking. "Yeah I'm staying here while I'm film something for a TV show."

"I thought it might be something like that."

"How did you know?" I asked feeling self-conscious

"Well" he said "you were coming out of the airport, you have an English accent, you have loads of luggage, you are staying in a cheap motel and no offence but you look a bit lost."

"Your right I have no idea where I am."

"Don't worry you'll know your way around soon enough." As he said this the car drove up in front of a small ransacked motel. "Here you are." he said "That's 20 dollars."

I gave him the money, got out and pulled my bags out behind me. As he pulled away he gave me a small wave and I smiled and waved back. When he was gone I walked up the small set of steps that led up to what appeared to be the main office. As I pushed the door it made a loud squeaking sound and wobbled worryingly on its hinges. The room beyond the door was small and dark.

There was a desk that took up the entire left side of the wall. Behind it sat a fat middle- aged women. Her hair was bleached blond and piled on top of her head. Her eyes were grey and the expression on her face was of complete and utter boredom. I walked up to the desk and said "Hello I'd like to rent a room please." The women looked at me with a surprised expression.

"Are you sure you wanna stay here?"

"Yes I'm sure. How much would it be to rent a room for a month?" I asked making it quite clear I was going to stay there.

"Um... $150."

"OK." I pulled my purse from my bag and gave her my card. She took it and I punched my pin into the machine she had put it in.

She then turned and took a key from one of the silver hooks behind her. The key was attacked to a fob with the number 109 written on it. The women handed me the key and I turned to go.

"Wait!" she called after me "I need to know your name." I turned back to her and smiled "My name is Alexis Tailor"

"Thank you." she said "My name is Sally feel free to come to me if you need anything."

"Thank you" I said as I was walking was I called "Bye". As the door shut behind me I faintly heard Sally saying "Bye"

After following the room numbers on the doors I found room 109. The room was small about the size of the living room at home. There was a double bed at one end of the room and an old television at the other. There was a door to the right of the TV which I assumed led to the bathroom. I walked over to the bed and sat down. It was hard and lumpy but it was better than nothing. I walked over to the window next to the door and pulled the curtains. Then proceeded to unpack some of the clothes and other essentials I had packed. The first thing I did was to place the photo of my friends on the bedside table. Then I got changed into my PJs.
