Chapter 4
5 minutes later tall blonde haired women entered the room. She looked about 30 and was wearing a pale green vest top and pink legging. Her face was kind but I got the feeling she was strict.
"So" she said as walked over to a small stereo on a shelf by the door. "Where's this new girl I've heard so much about?" I stood up as she said this walked over to her where she was now standing looking at the group expectantly. She didn't even seem to notice I was standing there so I cleared my throat and she looked up.
"Hi" I said sounding much more confident than I really was. "I'm the new dancer, Alexis Tailor."
"Hi Alexis my name is Ash and I'm the choreographer for Austin and Ally. I hope you will work hard and push yourself as far as possible because I must warn you I expect you to be the best you can be from the moment you walk through that door to the second you leave through it."
"I will give you everything I've got I promise."
"Great!" she said as she turned back to the stereo and put a CD into it. "Let's see what you got." I realised at that moment it was time for my big performance, all of my worrying had come down to right now.
I moved into the middle of the room and got into my starting position. I nodded to Ash to signal that I was ready to start and she pressed the play button. The music blasted from speakers on the walls in the corners of the room. My heart pounded with excitement and nervousness as I waited for my queue in the music. There it was and I was off dancing the routine I had spent hours and hours choreographing and rehearsing over and over again.
Much too quickly it was over and the music stopped. At first no one said a word and their faces were filled with complete shock. The first thought that came into my head was: Was it really that bad. I'd thought that it hadn't gone that bad. I didn't mess up any of the moves, which was a big plus in my mind.
Suddenly there was an eruption of clapping and cheering. I looked around to see everyone was standing up and clapping. Then it hit me they were clapping for me. No, they couldn't be I thought looking at them all, but who else would they be clapping for? Said a small voice in the back of my head. I smiled at everyone around me and took a small bow. At this they cheered louder and I laughed and said "Stop it, stop it. I'm really not that good a dancer."
"What are you talking about? That was amazing!" exclaimed Matt in a surprised tone.
"Yeah! No wonder you got lead." Said Jade coming over to me and giving me a hug. I hugged her back smiling and I felt the weight being lifted from my chest.
"You have some serious talent," said Ash who had walked up behind me without be me noticing, "But that doesn't mean that you can slack off while everyone else is working hard. I will also be expecting you to take over if I'm not here."
"I would never do that and I'm not sure if I'm good enough to be in charge like that."
"Don't worry I will only leave you when I know you're ready." As she said this my cheeks flooded with colour.
After about 2 hours of dancing it was time for a lunch break.
"Right, "She said and turned back to everyone else "Let's get started!" The first thing she did was to arrange us into our starting positions. I was at the front, gulp, next to Ross, double gulp. She then showed us the first few moves. The routine was difficult but I couldn't seem to get the smile off of my face.
"Hey we're gonna go and get something to eat. You coming?" asked Alice as she was about to walk out of the door behind everyone else.
"If it's ok with you I think I'll pass, but thanks for asking me."
