He looked up at me and smiled sheepishly, but stopped when he saw that I was fuming.

“Ross!” I exclaimed.

“What?” He asked, standing up and running his hand nervously through his hair.

“You were listening to me singing.” I said turning my back on him and walking back over to where I was sitting earlier.

“Yeah and. What’s the big deal?”

“The big deal,” I said turning to look at him before I sat down “is that I don’t like people listening to me singing.”

His face became very puzzled and he said “Why? You can sing.”

I smiled but couldn’t really accept the compliment. “Thank you. It’s nice of you to say that, but I know it’s not true. An I don’t like people listening to me because, and don’t laugh, but I get very bad stage fright. I’m scared that I will mess up or people will judge me or laugh at me.”

He didn’t laugh but his expression did change to one of understanding and slight surprise. He looked straight at me and said “Do you trust me?”

“Yes.” I said without hesitation, already knowing that I did.

“Then trust me when I say that you have nothing to worry about. What you were singing a minute ago was awesome. An what was that song?”

“It was just one of mine that I could remember without music.” I said feeling the blush in my cheeks, but ignoring it.

“You wrote that! Wow! I can tell by that one song that you’re an incredible song writer.”

“Okay, Okay. It was sweet at first, but seriously now you can stop it.” I said all my anger now gone.

“Stop what?” He asked sounding like he genuinely didn’t know what I was talking about.

“Fake complimenting me.” I answered, standing up to put the guitar back. Before I could even take more than a step Ross caught my wrist and pulled me back down.

“I’m not faking, I swear. You are genuinely a great singer and song writer.” Something changed in my mind and for some reason I believe him.

“Thank you.” I said astonished that I’d accepted what he’d said. I went to stand up again, but once again Ross stopped me.

“Would it be asking too much if I asked you if you would play it again?”

“Emm…” I said waiting for the feeling of utter terror to flood my body, but it didn’t come. This surprised me immensely. “No, but could you shut the door please.”

“Sure.” He said and walked over to the door and carefully closed it.

I put the guitar back on my lap and began to play. While I did Ross stood leaning against the wall opposite me and seemed to be thoroughly enjoying what he was listening to.

When I was finished Ross clapped and walked over to me. I stood up and it looked like he was about to hug me when there was a tap on the door.

“Come in.” I called seeing as it was partly my dressing room. The door opened and Laura popped her head around the in. She looked at Ross and said “We’re just about to start.”

“Okay,” Ross replied “I’ll be out in a sec.”

“Kay.” Laura said and left the door a jar. Before he followed her he turned to me and said “When we get a break you have to teach me that song.”

“Alright,” I said “As long as you teach me one of yours.”

“Deal.” He said and followed Laura onto the set.
