As we walked out to the car park Jade and Cody came over to us. They were holding hands and it made me feel a little conscious of Ross’s hand in mine, but I didn’t let go of it.

Jade linked her arm through mine so that we were linked together in a long line. No one said anything until we reached the car park.

“We’re this way.” Ross said pointing in the direction of his car.

“So are we.” Said Cody and we all walked over to the cars. As it turned out without realising it Ross had parked next to Cody. When we reached the cars Ross let go of my hand and Cody let go of Jade’s.

Ross walked around to the driver’s side but before Jade walked to the passenger side of Cody’s car she pulled me into a tight hug and said “Sorry about everything that happened today.”

“It’s not your fault. Apart from that I had a pretty good day and I just wanna forget about it.”

“Well I’m glad and if you don’t wanna talk about it, then we don’t have to.” She released her grip on me and looked into my face.

“Thanks.” Was all I said, not really knowing what else to say.

“No problem. Me, Mia and Matt are going shopping tomorrow do you wanna come?”

“Emm…” I said not entirely sure as I’d made myself a promise not to waste money on stuff I didn’t need. I did want to go though, and even if I didn’t buy anything I had a feeling it would still be fun.

“Yeah, I’d love to!”

“Great! I’ll text you later and tell you everything.”

“Ok. I’ll see you tomorrow then.” I said opening the car door

“Yeah see ‘ya then.” Jade said and walked around Cody’s car.

“Bye Cody.” I said as I got in.

“Bye.” I hear him say as he started his engine.

Once I was in Ross started the car and pulled away as I was putting my seat belt on. As we drove passed Cody’s car I waved and Jade waved back while Cody just gave a small flick of his hand in goodbye. He pulled out behind us and followed us out of the car park onto the main road but turned and went in the opposite direction after that.

“Oh dam it!” I exclaimed banging the palm of my head against my forehead because of my stupidity.

“What?” He asked looking over at me.

“I don’t have my songbook. Would you mind if we swung by the motel so I can grab it?”

“No that’s fine, but why do you need it?”

“I can remember that song to play it but I don’t think I can teach it to you without it.”

“Oh. Ok.”

“You think that’s strange, don’t you?”

“No. I never said that.” He protested defensively. “There is absolutely nothing wrong with that.” I just raised my eyebrows when he said that. The rest of the way to the motel we didn’t talk much. We said the odd thing but somehow nothing turned into a convocation.

Finally we drove into the car park of the run down motel. I jumped out and said “I’ll be like one minute.” Then, before he could answer I was running to my room and taking the key out of my bag. Once I got there I jammed the key in the lock and shoved the door open. I ran in, leaving the door wide open and went straight to the draw of the bedside table and yanked it open.

I knew it was in there because I remembered putting it in there after I unpacked my stuff. I snatched up the small leather covered book and stuffed it haphazardly into my bag. Then ran out the door, leaving the draw open and slamming the door behind me, only just remembering to lock it and ran back down to the car.
