Chapter 9

Chapter Nine

Once everyone else had arrived we practised the dance we learnt yesterday. When Ashley was satisfied we had it down, we started to learn the next dance.

At about 1 O’clock we stopped for lunch. I decided to stay in the studio again instead of going out with the others. Before everyone left Mia came over to be with an envelope in her hand. She handed it to me and said “I meant to give this to you earlier but I forgot.” I opened the envelope to find a square piece of card with the words, ‘You are invited to Mia’s Birthday Part.’ across the top. I pulled the card out and read:

‘Alexis is invited to Mia’s 21st Disney themed fancy birthday party.

When- 02 August 2014

Where- Panic Club

Dress- Come as any Disney character. Make sure you tell me who you are coming as before the party so that I can make sure there is only one of each character.

RSVP by 10th July at latest. Just text or call me and let me know.’

“I hope you can come.” Mia said and skipped merrily out of the door before I could say a word. I already knew that the party was on the night before I was going home. On one hand I thought that I shouldn’t o because I would have to get up early the next morning to get by flight, but on the other hand I had never been to a fancy dress party let alone a Disney themed one. I already knew who I wanted to be. My favourite Disney princess was Ariel. I had loved her ever since I was little, but for some reason people always made fun of me because of it. This worried me a little, but since I’d come to America was doing things I wouldn’t do at home so I decided that I would go for it.

I slipped the invitation back into its envelope and turned to go and sit down. I hadn’t really expected Ross to stay with me, but when I saw him sitting with his back against the wall looking straight at me, my heart jumped.

I realised just then, that I’d left my bag in the changing room, when I left Jade to think. I called over to Ross “I’ll be back in a sec; I left my bag in the changing room.”

“Kay.” He called back, now rummaging through his own bag.

I walked quickly to the changing room and snatched up my bag from the bench, I’d left it on this morning. On my way back to the dance room I fished my phone from the very bottom of the bag.

When I pressed the centre button I found I had three missed calls and a notice from Skype. The calls were from Danny, Lizzie and Jace. The notice from Skype said ‘You have 3 missed calls.’

Why had my friends tried so hard to get in contact with me? They knew I was working and I probably wouldn’t have my phone on me.

I went back into the dance room and sat down on the floor next to Ross, still thinking about the mysterious calls.

“Hey, are you OK?” Ross asked bringing me out of my thoughts.

“Oh. Yeah I’m fine. It’s just this.” I said and showed him the phone.

“What’s wrong with that? Your friends are trying to ring you.”

“It’s not that it’s wrong. It’s just why would they ring so much?” I said trying to work it out.

“I don’t” Ross was cut off by my phone ringing.

It was a Skype from Danny.
