I wake up the next morning to a knocking at my door."Noooo...." Claire moaned from beside me in her sleep. "Five more minutes."
I rolled my eyes, still feeling really groggy. Today was Saturday so we'd slept in until 9am which was later than usual. I knew Claire wasn't going to lift a finger If she didn't have to, so I got up, pulled on my black hoodie over my tank top and went to go open the door.
Standing at the door was Verna. She was already dressed with eyeliner dotting her lid and mascara on her eyelashes. She never did anything with her blonde hair.or at least I think she doesn't. it looks naturally straight and very thick. She wore an orange v-neck, skinny jeans and white converse sneakers. Over her shirt was a grey hoodie. For a second I actually envied her. She was pretty, but she didn't have to absue her looks to be pretty.she didn't really wear any makeup, just eyeliner and mascara. Her hair styled itself. I swear I was turning green.
"Hey how are you?" she asked grinning
I shrugged,
"Still kinda tired.you?" I asked rubbing my eyes and yawning.
She shrugged then scrunched up her nose and looked back at me.
"I'll see as the day goes on. Anyways," she began clearing her throat. "I was wondering if you'd like to join me for breakfast, they serve breakfast here but there's a dinner in the city that's amazing."
I pushed my hair behind my ear.
"Are toy sure you want me to come? I have some pretty awkward converstations with people I first meet...plus I still have to get ready." I informed furrowing my brow at her.
She nodded.
"I can wait here while you get ready. And its okay to be shy at first I'd like to get to know you better."
She actually looked and sounded really sincere. I pulled the door open a little bit more and stood out of the way.
"Well, come on in then," I invited and she smiled then walked into the room.
She studied the room as I shut the door just as Claire was sititng up and stretching her arms above her head. Once she saw Verna, her eyes narrowed.
"So you're what woke me up." She snapped.
I rolled my eyes.
"Don't mind her, Verna. She's always like this in the morning."
Verna let out a pft noise and crossed her arms.
"I know.I've known her for years now." Verna groaned then let out a giggle. Claire grabbed her pillow and tossed it at her. It hit Verna in the face making her hair get frizzy.
"hey! What was that for?" she exclaimed soomthing down her hair. I began ignoring them as I gathered things for my shower.
As they bickered, I grabbed a light grey long sleeved shirt, skinny jeans and my old converse from my closet. I made sure to grab my earings and my makeup. Everything else I would need was in the bathroom.
As I showered I thought about what happened with Aaron yesterday. I was still angry about it but not as angry as before. Now it just kind of irritated me. I wasn't some little kid but he sure as hell treated me like one with all the secrets. I need to know what happened to me . and if he wont tell me that then I'll just have to figure it out for myself. I let the water beat down on my back. How could a guy I barely know cause me this much stress? Though I do feel like I've met him before.
More than once.
Once I'm showered and all ready, I quickly get out of the bathroom. Claire has already fallen back asleep. Verna is sitting patiently on my bed looking down at the floor. When she looks up and sees me she smiles and throws her shoulder bag over her shoulder.
"You have a car?" she asked me.
I shook my head. "Sadly no." I replied with a sigh
"Can you drive mine then?" She says closing my door behind us. The hallway is quiet. "I hate driving."
I nodded. "Yeah I have my license." I giggled.
We walked down the hallwat and down the stairs. The campus was quiet in the morning. Everyone must still be sleeping or eating breakfast in the cafeteria. Once we exit the dorms I decide to ask her a question.
"Hey what's with all the weird medieval décor here? It really freaks me out." I stated.
She looked down at her feet and shrugged.
"I dunno. You think I know that?"
Okay it was obvious that she was hiding something. I'm not paranoid. I could see it on her face. There was definetly something she was certain she wasn't going to tell me and it made me even more upset. What was it with everybody keeping secrets around here? And why did they all know more than I did?
I feel completely out of place here. Once we got to her truck she tossed me the keys.
"Go easy on her," she joked winking at me from the other side of the car.
"Trust me. I'm not a reckless driver." I answered. Then opened the door and climbed into the seat.
Once I started the engine I backed up and exited the school from the gates which were black and had pointed arrows at the top of each pole. There were stone pillars on either side of the entrence. As I pulled out into the dirt road, Verna said something that made my stomach churn.
"I'm glad you decided to join me for breakfast, we have a lot to discuss."
