"Class," Kieran projects his voice so that it flows over the chatter of the students, making everyone quiet down."I have some special planned for today."
I looked over to the other side of the room.. Aaron was sitting in the same spot he usually sat in his shoulders slunping. I still poindered the converstation I overheard between Aaron and Kieran before class started. My first instinct is to confront him, I want to know why tutoring me is so bad and just exactly why he wants nothing to do with me.
But just the thought of doing that makes me feel guilty once I get a good look at him.
Aaron has always carried this bright aura with him even when he's acting as cold as he could ever be. Today however the aura he brings with him is absent from the room. Instead he looks tired and stressed.i can faintly make out dark circles under his eyes from my side of the room. His skin is paling to the point where his veins are slightly visiable. Even his silver and gold eyes have a dark tint to them. Hell he might have even lost a little bit of weight.
Something is bothering him a lot
It's the look on his face that gives it away, the way he desperately stares off into space oblivious to the rest of the world around him. Hes thinking.
I would die just to know what he was thinking about.
"One of our very talented students Aaron Stone has been tutoring one of our less experienced students Caitlyn Young...." Kieran began. I sighed din defeat. I knew where he was going with this. "I want to see all the progess Caitlyn has made."
Kieran didn't even pay Aaron a glance. He just locked eyes with me but today something lurked within his eyes.... Something bigger than any of us. His eyes looked....dead
I suddenly had a bad feeling about him
I felt a strong gazeon me and I looked back over to the other side of the room. Aaron was gazing at me but insead of giving me his usual cold frigid look, he looked at me as if he needed help and I was the only one who could help him. His eyes were filled with desperation. It broke my heart looking at him.... So much that I began to look at him with the same look of helplessness.
"Hello? Guys? Come on down here it's your turn to spar!" Kieran exclaimed.
Vivian suddenly came out of her office a smile on her face. Today she was dressed in a lace black dress and black high heals. Kieran as usual was dressed in a button up shirt and jeans.
"Yes Caitlyn, show us what you can do." Even Vivian sounded completely radiant, there was a disapproving tone to her voice as her eyes flitted back and forth between Aaron and i.
Slowly Aaron stood and I followed his movements. We both jumped down from the bleachers and walked over to Kieran and Vivian. Vivian held a foil in her hands, giving me an expectant look with a grin. I smiled back at her and took the foil from her, just as Aaron took his foil from Kieran.
"Places you two," Kieran shouted with a glee as if he was actually happy to see Aaron and I spar
Aaron gave me one last glance before he retreated to the left.. I stood where I was and got into my stance. Watching Aaron get into his stance is like art the way he rolls up his sleeves and locks his gaze with mine as he spreads he feet a foot apart.
I cant help but bite the inside of my cheek.
"En garde! Etes-vous prets?" Kieran shouts in French before continuing with "Allez"
Aaron comes at me but theres something about his movement that's off. He's a little more lazy with his movements today, moving with sloopy steps instead of being gracedul as he usually does. I easily stick him in the chest before he even has the chance to get started. He drops his foil then collapses onto the floor just as my heart collapses into my stomach.
"Aaron!"
The word comes out of my mouth but the voice that says it isn't mine. I cover my mouth. Was that really me who said that? Within my voice I swear a completely authentic British accent had emerged from within my vocal cords. I let out a small groan just to test it out and my voice sounded completely fine.
But Aaron stared up at me from the ground like I had spiders crawling out of my nose.
When he collapsed something shattered inside of me and I let myself fall onto my knees beside him. The entire class crowded around him as he squeaded out an "I'm fine." But it was hard for me to believe those words. I don't know what's making me act this way. I'm worried sick about him even after he treated me like I was nothing.
Vivian fought through the crowd od students until she got to us. Slowly Aaron sat up letting out a groan in the process. When I finally was able to rip my gaze from Aaron for a split second I was confused at what I saw.
Kieran who was standing just behind Vivian stood with his arms crossed and an emotionless look on his face. Vivian looked over her shoulder at him with an almost hateful look. The air between them seemed thicker than the atmosphere of the rest of the room. Vivian looked back down at Aaron and untwisted her face from her grimace.
"You need to go to the nurse" Vivian mutterd in a soft hushed voice.
Aaron shook his head and began to push himself up.
"I am just fine-" Aaron began.
I don't know what came over me but something told me to stop him. I pressed my hand against his chest. He looked at me in surprise. I made sure to give him a firm look.
"You should go Aaron."
Ever since that British accent had come out of my mouth he looked at me in astonishment. I thought that maybe it was just an accident that it came out.it had to be. I wasn't british at all.but when I'd heard my own voice it had sounded so familiar.
I knew that voice
To my surprise Aaron listened to me. he nodded and Vivian helped him to stand. Together they walked from the room, taking slow steps so Aaron wouldn't strain himself. Slowly I stood watching them leave, wondering what was wrong with Aaron and what had happened with my voice. But more importantly I had a bad feeling that something huge was about to happen soon,
Something that Aaron who thought he had the power to bend fate to his will could control
