During lunch I went to go see the school nurse. She bandaged my ankle before lunch even ended so I limped back to the cafeteria. Well I guess I really didn't limp back to the cafeteria I was never there in the first place.

The Cafateria was a dark and gloomy as the rest of the school. There were banners with the school emblem on them hanging all around the room. The schools emblem was weird it was a sliver shield with two swords crossing in the middle one black, one white. And behind the shield wings extended. White feathery wings. I guess it symbolized.. freedom? This place is anything but freedom. I feel like I am trapped in the dark ages.

The floors were made of wood and the walls made of stone. The windows were arched their planes black and to top it all of every table had a red velvet table runner spread across it with an intricate lace pattern. In the middle of each table was a lit camdlebra.

But all the kids looked completely normal.

If it wasn't for the décor the cafeteria would be completely natural. Kids walked back and forth table to table patting their friends on the back and teasing them from time to time. I have to say there was not that many people going to this school. Most schools like this had over a thousand students but so far the greatest number I've been able to estimate a little over six hundred. that must be why we aren't divided into separate lunches. we had different lunch hours at my old school. yes my old school, Burke High School, where everything was completely normal. Where Paige is. My best friend.

Instead of standing in the doorway and staring at everyone like a freak. I scanned the room, looking for someone anyone that had a smiling friendly face.  Right when I was starting to feel hopeless Claire popped her head up from her table in the corner of the room.

"Caitlyn! Over here!" she shouted waving me over to her.

Great. Now everyone looked at me, after a few seconds they all went back to wolfing down their meals and chatting. I traipsed across the room and over to Claire. The people at her table were just like everyone else i'd seen. They weren't notmal.

The guy sitting across from Claire had hazel eyes with an orange ring around his pupil. his hair was wavy and messy and his skin was pale. The girl next to him had long blonde hair. she looked pretty much like a good kid. the only thing that separated her from the world outside the school was her eyes. Of course. They were blue, bottom of the ocean deep dark blue. And the guy next to her looked like an average boy next door character. His hair was golden blonde and wavy. His eyes on the other hand were a muted magenta.... Grey with a mengata tint to them. Not that bright girly over the top magenta. A pretty magenta that brought out his tan skin.

I have earth green eyes I must look like the weird one. Even Claire's were unnatural, they were a very light blue almost an electric blue.

"This is Thorne," Claire pointed to the guy with the Hazel and Orange eyes. he flipped his brown hair out of his face and waved giving me a sarcastic grin.

"That's Verna" Claire jerked her chin in the direction of the only other girl at the table with the long blonde hair and the ocean blue eyes she gave me a kind almost shy smile.

"And this is Daniel. He's got the loudest mouth at this table" Claire gave a roll of her eyes pointing at Daniel who sat right next to her.

"I thought that was me?" Thorne chimed in winking at Claire.

I could see something transpiring between the two of them. Claire seemed to act like she didn't want anything to do with Thorne but the blush in her cheeks said differently when he winked at her.

"Your both idiots how about that?" Verna broke in. "Have any of you though about making room for... what's your name?" she asked looking at me.

"Caitlyn," I muttered with a smile.

"Caitlyn, Yes." then Verna moved over a seat. "You can sit between Thorne and I"

I looked at all of them. Was I welcome here? They all give me very kind looks but there was something about the way Daniel looked at me. it wasn't like he didn't exactly want me here. but it's like his eyes were hiding something. Like something about me sparked something in him.

Almost like he knew something about me that I didn't even know.

Ugh. Aaron already gave me a headache I don't need another guy giving me a headache. Daniel seems nice I don't want him to treat me differently just because of what he thinks he knows about me so ignoring his condescending looks I plop down in the seat on the bench right between Verna and Thorne.

"Did you just move here this year?" Verna asks from beside me, she seems to be the only one here who acts somewhat ordinary

I nodded. "Yeah I- "

"How did you get here?" Daniel asks me suddenly completely interrupting what I was about to say,

I looked over at him. he stared me down I didn't exactly know how to respond so I just sat there with a dumbfounded look on my face. he pressed me further skewering his gaze into mine. he wanted his answer. and he wanted it now.

"I ...I just moved here.." I stammerd,

Everyone at the table looked nervous as they stared at Daniel. Vernea looked like she could snap his neck. then I noticed Daniel was no longer looking at me. he was looking just over my shoulder to see what he was looking at.

Aaron was sitting two tables behind us and he and Daniel were exchanging glances. intense glances.  there was something hidden behind their eyes especially Aaron's. The look on his face showed it. he was thinking.. he almost looked distressed.

then he saw me.  He scowled and went back to scarfing down his meal. I noticed that he was sitting alone.

"I just don't know what is up with Aaron today." Claire announced. "I thought he was going to sit with us."

I looked back at the table. Daniel held my gaze again. I was starting to get nervous.

"Yeah." Daniel answered as the bell rang and everyone got up from their tables. "Me too."

"Don't be such an asshole Daniel." Thorne said grabbing his backpacl/

"I'm not I am just indering why Aaron won't sit with us you know?" Daniel informed sounding a little more normal.

I began wondering the same thing. Aaron was supposed to sit with them today. Claire was friends with Aaron? I looked back at where Aaron sat to see he was no longer there. he must have been the first one out of the cafeteria. That's when a terrible realisation came to me hitting me harder than a truck and for some reason it really hurt.

Aaron hadn't sat by them because he didn't want to sit with me.
