My palms were sweating a lot now. Not just from being next to the one person who detested me for no reason even though I felt connected to him in a way. But also because I'd just been chosen to do something I wasn't prepared to do at all. Everyone turned in their seats to stare at me. I swallowed a lump of nervousness down my throat. If I didn't move I'd look like an even bigger idiot and that's what I was trying to avoid. So I get up and as I did the people sitting on the first row of the bleachers parted for me. I stepped down. I could feel the guy's eyes on me and I started picturing his silver grey gaze.
"Come on don't be shy" Kieran encouraged trying to make me feel more comfortable. Could he tell that I was pretrified? I'd been trying to hide it.
I took a deep breath, hopped down from the first set of the bleachers, then mendared over to Kieran.he smiled, took my hand and directed me over to where I was supposed to stand. Once I was in the right position he stepped about ten feet away from me. Vivian stood between us with a red flag in her hands.
"Uh...I've never fenced before." I murmred before looking down at the ground.
Kireran flashed me a perfect smile. "I'll go easy on you then. Don't hurt yourself." He teased.
I was hoping telling him that would get me out of fencing but it looks like fate isn't working in my favor. I saw something shine in my peripheral vision then looked down to see it was Vivian's forgotten foil lying on the ground by my feet. I scooped it up into my hands, wrapping my fingers around the handle then looked back at my challenger. Kieran was rolling his sleeves back up. He winked at me.
"En garde! Etes- vous prets?" I heard Vivian ask in perfect French once again. The words were a mere echo to me I focused as hard as I could on contemplating Kieran's movements before they actually happened, even if we hadn't started yet.
"Allez!"
Kieran flew over to me, shuffling to his feet a few times before almost sticking me in the collarbone. I moved back in surprise at his speed then finally raised my foil. At least I did something right I countered his attempted move to stick my shoulder. He shook his head gave a hearty laugh then came at me again. I tried to move back, but ended up tripping on my ankle. I gritted my teeth and dropped my foil.
Did I just pull a muscle?
Kieran's eyes instantly softened and he crouched down to me. Some kids in the bleachers snickered. I must have made a complete foal of myself. I cant fence. I never have.
"Are you alright?" Kieran asked me.
I nodded I was afraid that if I actually spoke I'd make myself sound more of a moran. Kieran lifted my arm around his shoulder for me, then supported my weight as we walked to face the classroom. I limped with Kieran and when I finally looked up. I saw a set of silver eyes staring at my ankle with concern.
He was concerned.
I could see it on his face. He looked worried about me, almost pained while everyone else talked amoung themselves. I met his gaze. We stared at each other for a second and then he finally looked down again and went back to displaying a hard expression on his face. The pain in his eyes ad shocked me and it made me want to run to him and make sure he was okay. But I stayed where I was with my arm wrapped around Kieran's neck as we faced the class. I bit my lip and looked down as he spoke.
"The thing about being a teacher is that even when your students feel at their lowest, you still have to be honest with them. " then he looked at me. "I want you to tend to your ankle carefully tonight. The schools nurses office is by the Gym. If you need her she's there an hour after school hours. And I've decided to assign you a tutor. Your tutor will be..."
Then he trailed off scanning the room. I began to feel sick. Then his eyes settled on the one person I was afraid they would settle on.
"Arron" Kieran called to him. He'd been looking down, but then he looked back up. His gaze was colder than I remembered though his silver eyes still called to me. "You can tutor her" then Kieran looked at me and aised his brow. "Arron helped me instruct a class one day when Vivian was out. He's a natural."
I could hear Arron's exasperated sigh from his corner of the room. The bell rang and everyone scattered to get their things. I limped over to my backpack that was on the right side of the room trying not to put too much pressure on my ankle. I hoisted a strap in my shoulder and groaned. It only made the pain in my ankle worse.
And then someone yanked my arm to the left. Not enough to hurt me but enough to get my attention. The grip was firm and warm and it sent shivers through my body. When I looked up at who the arm was attached to my eyes widened.
Arron stood there, his silver eyes with the gold rim around the pupil piercing mine. He looked irrated. I could hear it in his voice when he spoke.
"This doesn't make us friends," he grumbled "got it?"
My lips parted. I didn't know what to say, so I didn't say anything. At first when he touched my arm. I hadn't wanted him to let go of me, but now as he stared down at me with those tough antagonizing eyes I realized that was all I wanted so I nodded.
Then he dropped my arm, picked up his backpack and stormed from the room throwing it around his shoulder.
