Once the bill came to our table Verma institsted that she paid it. No matter how much I fought with her, she still won, and I rested my cheek in my hand as she signed the receipt. She was putting a five dollar tip on the table when something caught her eye from out the window. Her eyes widened and she stuck her fingers between the blinds separating them so she could see what was going on. I could hear a car door shutting. I looked out the window with her to see Cass and a group of other guys getting out of a truck. Three of them were sitting in the trunk. Cass and another guy with longer hair were sitting up front.

"Shit," Verna cursed under her breath. Before I could blink she was next to me and pulling my arm. I got up in a hurry."We need to go"

She dragged me out the door and before we could get much farther. Cass and his group of friends came around the corner. There was a cigarate hanging out of his mouth. Shallow small smoke rings surrounded the air around him, making his dark features and pale skin stick out like a sore thumb. The guy behind him with the longer shoulder length hair was staring at me with hungry eyes. Verna got in front of me and I peeked out at them from behind her.

Cass stopped in his tracks looked back and forth between Verna and me, and shrugged with a smile on his face,

"Why are you leaving?" he asked taking the cigarette out of his mouth and holding it between two of his fingers. "We just got here."

"Move Cass" Verna commanded staring him down more than a little successfully.

Cass scoffed at Verna and focused on me. "I came here to see you. And I will." He stated

"How did you know I was-" I began but Verna cut me off.

"Well maybe Caitlyn doesn't want to see you." Verna spat than began dragging me away from them again.

Cass caught her arm and stopped her and she let go of mine looking up at him with a vengeful look on her face.

"Maybe she does." Cass barked looking extremely angry.

I was beginning to get frustrated. Neither of them had the power to choose what I wanted to do for me. I'm not a kid. And I had to do something before they ripped each other apart so I stepped between them then narrowed my eyes at Verna.

"Neither you nor Cass can decide that." I concluded then looked up at Cass and continued with my previous question. "How did you know I was here?"

Cass looked utterly dumbfounded.he thought for a minute.

"I saw you leave." He informed.

"But how did you know I was leaving to come here?" I pleaded stepping up closer to him

He shook his head and smiled and ran hos jand through his messy wavy black hair

"Baby I knew because Verna always comes here on Saturday mornings with your other friends. So o knew she was going with you. Why you so worried about it?" he explained looking down at me with concern in his eyes.

"Don't start with your charunsa Cass." Verna began but I raised my hand to cut her off. To my surprise she shut her mouth. I still didn't know if I should take being called baby as an insult or a compliment by him. It was cute, but hed sounded kind of mocking when he said it. I liked princess better.

"Cass I'm feeling a little tired..." I began pushing my hair behind my ear. "I would really just like to go home."

Verna nodded in approval.

Cass sighed and nooded. "Alright if that's what you really want princess." He muttered making me blush. Our faces were inches apart."I was looking forward to sitting with you."

It was so hard to tell him no  but something told me that I was doing the right thing. I bit my lip and stepped a little further away from him so that I was standing beside Verna.

"I'll see you in school Cass" I replied.

Verna guided me to her truck and I was sad to leave Cass but yet grateful that I was no longer under the longing hungry stares of the rest of his threatening group,

When the truck came to a stop in the parking lot. I took the keys out of the slot and collapsed back against the seat. Verna and I sat there for a minute staring aimlessly out of the windshield.

"You really should consider-" she began

"Save it" ibarked."Why didn't you let me speak for myself back there? I was completely capable of telling him no on my own. And why are you so set and keeping Cass and me away from each other? Our relationship has got absoultly nothing to do with you. Maybe I should reconsider listening to you,"

Verna rolled her eyes.

"Yes you did tell him no but you wavered. I could see it on your face and hear it in your voice. You were close to just telling him yes. You were tempted. You shouldn't be. I know you're stronger than that."

I angrily push the door open, then looked back at her one more time.

"You're my friend. Not my boss." I spat.

I stormed away from the car without saying goodbye to her. Verna was really nice but I didn't like her commanding attitude. It fit the rest of the group though mainly Daniel and Aarron. And even though it angers me I cant help but feel that all of them know what they doing and they really are trying to keep me safe.,

It gives me a headache
