"Rory... why is Mom staring at us?" I asked, sleepily when the alarm went off and I looked up to see Mom sitting in the chair in front of our beds. Rory groaned, finally pulling herself to sit up in bed. Mom came over and sat on my bed, smiling.

"It's your last first day of high school that you'll ever have" Mom said, as she then proceeded to hand us our "bills" that we would just "account with our student loans". Good thing I had 4-8 more years of school after Rory graduated.

"Well you two got home too late last night, and I wanted to tell you both something" Mom said, as I went to the kitchen to get coffee while Rory put on a robe to use the bathroom.

"What?" Rory asked, as I stood by the kitchen door while the coffee brewed.

"Kirk asked me out" Mom said, and it was good thing I was drinking coffee or else it would have all spilled out onto the floor from my mouth by now.

"Shut. Up" I said, amazed. I started immediately laughing, before going to the coffee maker to pour myself a cup.

"He came to the Inn and asked me to dinner" Mom said, and I just chuckled alongside Rory as we both began getting ready.

"That's so sweet" Rory teased.

"Sweet?" Mom said, confused.

"You should wear your dress with the ponies on it. I bet he likes ponies" I said, giggling, before rushing to get to the first early morning dance practice.

Over the summer, it had been announced that I had made dance captain, as well as Chilton's medical society president: two incredible and extremely great honors... besides the fact that I needed three planners: one for home, one for school, and a small one that I could carry with me at all times in case I somehow forgot the other two.

"Oh! I got these for you to take to the dancers. I thought about getting bagels, but I realized dancers don't eat much... so here you go!" Mom said, putting in a large tray filled with iced coffee pitchers and to go cups.

Now, as I hopped in the finally refurbished car, I drove off to Chilton, blasting music as I tried to calm my nerves for the first meeting with everyone.

"Good morning everyone!" I said, as cheerfully as I could, while setting down the coffee on a table in the corner. "I brought iced coffee for everyone because I wanted to start this year on the right foot. I want this year to be great. I want this year to be epic, and I want this year to have the best recitals we've ever choreographed"

The girls all scrambled to the coffee hurriedly, all with smiles of gratitude on their faces, before sitting at the table.

"This is a very nice surprise. Thank you. Last year, the captain brought donuts... dancers shouldn't eat donuts" Head Coach Dawnsford said, nodding in approval, before sitting beside me at the table. I smiled gratefully, and then looked to the rest of the varsity dancers.

Now that it was senior year, I knew all of the varsity members: Sandy, Marianne, Rachel, Trevor, Kevin, Polly, Ellie, and Edna. I had not hung out often outside of dance with the last four, but they were nice and respectful dancers.

"Now, this year, I have a multitude of ideas and items we must discuss. First: our recitals. We usually do two large recitals, winter and spring. Now, usually there are the same usual options... I wanted to change that. I have a few options of my own that I'd like to propose, as well as open up the floor to you varsity dancers to add your own possibilities to the vote" I said, as I went over to the whiteboard, and started writing down recital themes. "We do not have to vote on them today - we will discuss some today, create a final list on wednesday, and vote then. How does that sound?"
